07.10.2025 10:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Great paper on the state of political science osf.io/preprints/os... by @guygrossman.bsky.social et. al. We have become more diverse, more quantitative, and more collaborative.
07.10.2025 10:38 β π 27 π 13 π¬ 1 π 2Thanks, Chaim!
07.10.2025 10:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Absolutely. Nothing we saw in the past 9-10 months suggests these people will allow a free and fair playing field in Nov 26.
07.10.2025 09:48 β π 11 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0@carotorreblanca.bsky.social , Will Dinneen, and my paper entitled "Political Science Under Pressure: Competition and Collaboration in a Growing Discipline, 2003-2023" has been (conditionally) accepted at @poppublicsphere.bsky.social.
This paper has been a labor of love. osf.io/preprints/os...
Again - the government is shut down, and it's somehow not news. I invite you to scroll down the NYT and Wao landing pages this morning.
06.10.2025 10:51 β π 34 π 10 π¬ 1 π 1I agree with Tom - we live in an electoral authoritarian regime. It has some fascist elements (e.g., disappearing migrants; masked agents detaining individuals without warrants), but the Trump regime is not (at least, yet) in a full fascist mode.
05.10.2025 23:44 β π 19 π 3 π¬ 4 π 1Bit of escapism:
Becky Hammon should be a head coach in the NBA.
Branding legitimate opposition as terrorism is dangerous and (putting t mildly) -- inconsistent with democratic norms.

04.10.2025 01:32 β π 82 π 8 π¬ 1 π 0Even if he manages to bring about the end of the war in Gaza, he canβt be worthy of the Noble prize because he declared war on half his own people.
04.10.2025 00:41 β π 9 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0In short, while we may be closest to ending the war than any time in the last two years , we are not there yet.
But there is hope. Thatβs not nothing.
Praying for peace, for healing , for co existence for both people.
Unclear what guarantees Hamas gets to ensure Israel keeps its part of the deal once the hostages are returned
Unclear whatβs the timeline for allowing Palestinians to return to semblance of self governance.
Unclear what the exact mandate of the temp international forces.
Cautiously optimistic about the end of the Gaza war though so many details in Trumpβs plan are under specified.
Unclear when Israel withdraws its forces and from what parts of Gaza.
Unclear how many Palestinian prisoners Israel will release and whom.
Beyond astounding that the government is shut down, and you would not know that if you logged into the @nytimes.com and scrolled down its landing page.

You may have heard my arguments against the Electoral College before. Hereβs a new one the Founders never anticipated:
If the President is elected by popular vote, he probably wouldnβt selectively punish entire states for voting against him.
If the WH won't commit to respecting Congress's power of the purse, why should Democratic lawmakers spend time bargaining on spending priorities?

01.10.2025 12:24 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's a bit tiring to keep playing this game, but imagine the shit storm if a democratic president summoned the highest echelon of the military from all around the world for a hyper-partisan pep talk.
01.10.2025 00:27 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Interesting that Haaretz framed Trump's plan to end the war as a slap in the face of Netanyahu, while @nytimes.com views it as "triumph" for Netanyahu. Neither is entirely wrong. Netanyahu got more than he should have. But he also faces irrational coalition partners intent on sabotaging any deal.

Coal is now three times more expensive than solar energy.

Exactly! And about this too, @kevinshih.bsky.social et al. have the best research available.
They show that the influx of H-1B STEM workers raised the productivity and thus wages of US workers, both without college and with college, across *all sectors*
The same applies to tech workers on H-1B visas: they don't take away American jobs; they ensure more have them in the first place.
29.09.2025 22:55 β π 11 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Vancee says a lot of outlandish stuff, but the idea that when political opponents negotiate, "the other side" should not use its leverage is truly ludicrous.
29.09.2025 21:06 β π 11 π 4 π¬ 0 π 0clearly you have not been listening to the same Ezra Klein podcast that I listen to weekly.
29.09.2025 21:03 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0When people call others to drop subscription to his podcast (as many do here) - thatβs cancellation.
29.09.2025 10:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The imperative to create room for a big tent to beat an autocratic regime, means forming alliances with those you disagree on much. I thus find the cancellation of Ezra Klein on this website frustrating and counterproductive.
