Ottawa has the worst job market in Canada, faring worse than cities with tariff-hit industries Economists say the fallout will only deepen as federal cuts to spending and the civil service begin to ramp up

It's funny how the "Return to office" mandate was in large part due to the idea that it would improve the bottom line for downtown Ottawa businesses. Meanwhile, the public service cuts have had a profound ripple effect on the city as a whole.

Radio-Canada apologizes after it aired a photo circulated by anti-trans hate groups online, falsely claiming it was a photo of the Tumbler Ridge shooter. Damaging and irresponsible, and this apology raises more questions about journalistic process imho.

Canada agreed to pay for the full cost of construction, land acquisition on the US side, and connecting Interstate highway links, AND also isn't charging tolls on the US side of the bridge. This amounts to saying America should be allowed to steal Canadian money.

Bruce Fanjoy:

Statement Regarding the Return to Office Policy
February 9*, 2026
On February 5th, 2026, the federal government announced an updated Return-to-Office
(RTO) policy for federal public servants. Today, I am calling upon the government to reconsider this policy for the following reasons:
1. The new RTO policy makes it harder to achieve the government's priorities of reducing the operating cost of government, improving affordability, and respecting the environment. Instead, it will cost both the government and citizens more and increase pollution.
2. There is little to no evidence that a one-size-fits-all RTO policy will improve productivity or service to Canadians.
3. The RTO policy makes it harder for public servants to balance work with other responsibilities.
I believe Canada is better served by a hybrid model that balances a mix of in-office and remote work. The right balance is flexible and depends on circumstances. Done well, a hybrid model reduces the cost of government and benefits workers and all Canadians.
To my constituents in Carleton, I hear you. I will continue to press for solutions that work for you and all Canadians.
Sincerely,
Bruce Fanjoy
Member of Parliament for Carleton

BRONZE FOR CANADA 🇨🇦

Megan Oldham, from Parry Sound, wins bronze for Canada in the women’s slopestyle event.

It’s her first Olympic medal in her second Games. And how about this, four years ago she missed qualifying for the final by one spot. Now she’s on the podium.

This whole “return to office” discourse needs to be contextualized within the context of government “workplace modernization” initiatives, which are less about productivity or employee wellness than they are about cutting costs and being cheap

Federal public servants called back to office 4 days a week starting this summer | CBC News The federal government expects its employees to return to in-office work for a minimum of four days a week starting this July.

Two things I’m not sure is widely understood:

1. Many public servants no longer have their own desks and work in transient government co-working spaces

2. Many describe a Kafkaesque existence of going to physical offices only to spend their time on video calls with the people sitting next to them
