‘But Rachel, you’re firmly a Record Person, who also has a slightly unreasonable amount of CDs - what’s with this digital tomfuckery?’. Relax, it’s essentially one big shopping list, & unlike Discogs, doesn’t send me 8 bajillion emails a week about a compilation I wanted to remember the name of.

I get (unreasonably, and usually just internally) annoyed enough that, in most record shops, ska gets included in reggae, funk gets included in soul etc. Don’t get me started on the ones that lump everything pre-1960 that isn’t obviously jazz together. Or the concept of ‘easy listening’…

Oh aye, I wasn’t planning on buying a ticket tonight, but I suspect it might be one of those gigs that haunt me if I don’t try and go - didn’t see B.B. King last time he was in toon, when he was about the same age, and now I never will.

Dark blue paperback copy of Rhythm & Blues In New Orleans, by John Broven, sitting on a cream diamond-patterned rug with red, pink, teal, and mustard diamonds visible.

Took forever to finish reading this, mostly thanks to my quest to hear every song mentioned (ongoing, and YouTube doesn’t have everything, but that’s future crate-digging fun in the bank), but it’s quite simply one of the best books on music I’ve ever read.
