Got a Woodforde's 'Advent calendar' box of beer for my recent birthday as well as the box of Mauldons. As a result I have only just opened up Dec 1st of the Woodforde's.

Baudelaire, Yvette Mimieux, Ali Akbar Khan? That's a mad idea is it not? Turns out it was a great idea. According to Nat Hentoff the idea to record Baudelaire came from Yvette Mimieux. Ali Akbar Khan was in the room at the time and was asked if he would be interested in providing musical settings.

Perfect music for this cold, wet, and windy autumn day. Sounds just like the cover looks. Tetuzi Akiyama and Michel Henritzi- Shinjuko No Kage. The two electric guitarists drift through three reverberant and melancholy scenes in pleasing fashion.

Maybe it's just our 'elderly' ears. Your description of it being 'wrapped in cotton wool' more-or-less fits the sound of my copy. I do think the production has a wooly sound, but It's also true yours could be knackered!

I think that's just the sound of 'Outdoor Miner' insofar as mine doesn't sound 'great' either and never did. Always assumed it was a production choice of the ever unpredictable Wire.

I like 'on the pike for a while' ( your misplaced finger). I'm going to try to bring it into use here- just need to think what context. 'Have I got time for a shower before tea'? ' Yes, tea will be on the pike for a while yet'. 'Is that picture new'? 'Nooooo, that's been on the pike for a while'

Think you'll find their latest is worth your attention as well. Sold out on Bandcamp but must still be in the shops over there.

I'm a big fan- especially that song 'The People...'. It's on a CD for the car so you know it's good, but once you know how it all ended it's impossible to put it to one side when you listen to her- whatever she's singing. It lends a very melancholy air to it all.
