So I don't know quite what I expected from my Thursday evening, but witnessing/hearing a large portion of Ligeti's "L'escalier du diable" as interpreted by Bruce Hornsby(!) was not on my bingo card.

Such an incredibly tough choice to make when there are simultaneous premieres by Han Lash and Amy Williams several towns apart.

Ah! I caught the evening performance and enjoyed the whole program very much. I also think it was an astounding feat of endurance to do that program twice with little time between performances in that heat and humidity.

It sure was great to get a chance to hear them live! I’m really happy that the Gardner keeps hosting musicians we otherwise rarely hear in Boston. Now I’m hoping we can also start getting concerts at times other than Sunday afternoon.

Yes! I was there with @doriastories.bsky.social and then after a quick coffee we drove out to Rivers for the final concert in their weekend of contemporary music. Many good options today, but I don’t regret our choices. Sorry I didn’t see you to say hello.

I had seen passing reference to these pronouns before, but when I read that book (which you gave me!) it was the first time I had any context for them & a memorable demonstration of their usage. Glad to be able to share that point of reference!

Something that doesn't get talked about nearly enough is how Sarah Palin, with her combination of religious zealotry, outsider appeal, anti-intellectualism, aggressive posturing and utter uncuriosity about the world, set the stage for the current phase of US right-wing politics.

The idea that Tr@*p's betrayal of Ukraine should bump trans civil rights to a lower place on some progressive "priority list" is incredibly insidious and destructive. To go along with this is to give in to an evil strategy. There's never been a more important time than now to support trans rights.

I didn't celebrate Twin Peaks day on February 24, but everybody knows it is much more fun to celebrate a happy Fish-In-The-Percolator day today, on February 25!

It's kind of rare, but occasionally I go to a concert where I paid a fair amount of $ for the ticket, and it turns out I only like the music a little bit.

...though in retrospect, I'm actually happy that "The Return" did almost none of the things that I expected it to do and thought I wanted it to do, and that it sort of completely messed me up instead.

I sorta wanted it to happen, as it would have fixed the "problem" of the previous casting change in an especially unusual way. In my imaginings it was something that would happen constantly but would go completely unmentioned and unremarked upon by other characters.

I have to get this out: I have been a queer and trans activist and educator for 35 years and among all the other things I am feeling right now, I am also just SO ANNOYED we have to do this AGAIN.

In 2017 I heard an early rumor about TP:S3 which was that it WOULD have Donna in it, but she’d be played by a different actress in every scene she was in, as if to double down on the switch to Moira Kelly. (I found it nearly plausible at the time given the huge cast list that had been announced.)

And yes I am posting enthusiastically about buying music even in the middle of a constitutional crisis & hellish downward spiral because it’s what I’m using to stabilize myself and because I don’t currently have anything useful to say about anything else.
