It’s important to note that having typeset subtitles was very operationally expensive for them, requiring to encode every language with burned in subs as separate videos. There is no good way to support “soft” typeset subs on anything other than a computer.

I see a lot of artists on here questioning whether they should be promoting their work in the current political climate.

The answer is always yes. ART: books, music, film, painting, sculpture - all of it - is the most accessible way to communicate complex topics, ideologies and emotions.

It should be increasingly obvious that capitalism will only fund capitalist stories, and if you want to find the stuff that doesn't toe the line you've got to step over it.

Stripping queerness from fanfic to give it "broad audience appeal" is a great example, because how much broader an audience than the half a million users AO3 gets EVERY MONTH?
