Every time I hear a politician say that an issue is “dividing” this country they always then come down on the side of the right wing view of it. Just once I’d love to hear someone say “this issue is divisive, which is why I’m making the argument that kindness and compassion is important”

@feverbitch.bsky.social hits the nail on the head again as usual. I've been feeling something like this about Arsenal Women's performances of late, and worry a little about how this might impact attendances and the project to use the Emirates as their home ground.

The upcoming Elections Bill is a chance to fix it.

Starmer and Reeves would destroy themselves with a manifesto break
There was a moment they could have broken their word. It's long gone.
There was a time Starmer/Reeves could made the argument to raise income taxes and VAT. There was even a moment they could have made the argument to break their manifesto pledge. It’s far too late. Now it would spell disaster for them and for politics. My latest👇

We tried to place this story - very expensive polling, the first of its kind, strong quantitative data about what trans people feel about Britain: bluntly there is no better way to tell the story - with the BBC but it said it was "too weak".
But it will pick up any old piece of transhating garbage.

YouGov poll reveals safety crisis for trans people in the UK
In @yougov.co.uk polling of the trans community, to the best of our knowledge the first of its kind ever conducted, an astonishing 84% said Britain is “fairly unsafe” or “very unsafe” for trans people.

A tweet from Morgan J. Freeman states:
“FACT: Venezuela is NOT a major producer of cocaine.
They do not have large cocaine factories.
They do not produce fentanyl either.
What Venezuela does have is the world’s largest oil reserves.”
Fentanyl and coke are the new “weapons of mass destruction” lie. It’s Iraq all over again, folks. It’s always about controlling the oil.

How about, rather than shipping a few hundred people off to military sites, we let asylum seekers work and contribute to our society and fix our broken asylum system? 🤔

"Painfully dull" Arsenal currently have:
🔺 Highest defensive line in the Premier League
🔺 Most touches in the opposition penalty area
🔺 Most shot-creating actions in the league
🔺 Second-most goals + third-most total shots
With Havertz, Madueke and Odegaard all injured.

New report confirms local government crisis is growing
The Institute for Government’ annual review of the state of local government, published last week, paints an alarming picture
Local government isn’t “boring bureaucracy.” It’s social care, housing, libraries, leisure centres, youth clubs.
When these vanish, communities fracture – and people notice. When local government breaks, so does trust in politics itself.

and even worse - these changes were introduced without consultation, warning and no evidence base

Keir Starmer shouldn't wait until the likely fiasco of the May local elections. If he has any concern for party and country, he should step aside now, giving his successor as long as possible to undo the damage of his disastrous premiership and restore hope in politics.
