we produce tonnes of marketable, valuable, productive stuff that we could sell to the world β like university education, and television programmes, for example β but the government has no interest in improving the conditions for making and selling these things

No aid has reached the starving people of Palestine.
Israeli forces continue to block access despite the imminent risk of literally mass mass death of babies & children.
Today we MUST make our voices heard - come if you can at 6PM to Parliament square & #fastforgaza #r4today
EHRC requests FOUR WEEKS to respond on a legal question they've already said is clear.
They originally only wanted two weeks for their entire consultation, which would affect all trans people... but they want twice that to respond to a letter which might affect them.
Not sure how you say to someone "you look a bit like a man/woman, can I see your birth certificate please" with any 'sensitivity' whatsoever.

This is what happens when anti-vaccine rhetoric takes hold. Lives are lost. People get incredibly sick or are left with lifelong disability from a preventable illness.
We had all but eradicated measles. It doesnβt need to be this way.
Get your vaccine and wear a respirator (especially in hospital)
The image is a screenshot of a tweet from Brandon Bradford (@BrandonLBradfor ). The tweet reads: "Deporting Americans without due process then saying they no longer get due process because they arenβt in America means no one has rights, FYI. Nightmare scenario."
If you think this canβt happen, remember that of the 125,000 Japanese Americans who were interned during WWII for years without charge or trial, two-thirds were U.S. citizens. Including me.

Even if youβre lucky enough to have a supportive family/partnerβ¦ thereβs always the fear they could leave. The guilt that youβre a burden. The pain of wishing you didnβt NEED someone so much.

This is what I mean when I say the system is rigged.
The game of "here's my scope, please give me your estimate" is ultimately broken
1. The scope *will* change
2. The estimate is unreliable anyway
3. The decision-making is around price in isolation and not value
Ultimately, we don't exploit "here's my budget; what's the best I can get for it?" path
"Unlike theory, practice gets its hands dirty. It is practice that lays bricks, builds bridges, and writes code. Practice lives in the real world of change, confusion, and uncertainty. It faces competing choices and, grimacing, chooses the lesser evil; it dodges, it hedges, it robs Peter to pay Paul. It makes a living by doing the best it can with what it has."
Absolutely love this quote from @sandimetz.bsky.social.
14.01.2025 20:42 β π 23 π 9 π¬ 1 π 1Well worth a read. While the post is about diabetes, it overlaps with the experience of so many folks with chronic illness & injuries.
Well timed too as Iβm currently navigating the exact same issues with prolonged sitting being very very difficult.
A system with tests, then the system is broken into parts, then the parts get their own tests, then the tests for the whole system can be radically slimmed.
Here's a sequence I haven't heard discussed. You have a system with tests. You break the system into parts. You add tests for the parts. Now you have redundant coverage. You have the opportunity to trim the system-level tests without losing any confidence in the behavior of the system. Do you?
17.01.2025 16:21 β π 37 π 9 π¬ 16 π 0And if a test is broken, you have nothing more important to do than figure out why it broke unexpectedly, then make sure the tests & system are in sync and the tests remain predictive & inspiring.
