Happy to report that it got a good response, especially nice given that most art I share on there, be it my own or something like this that inspires me, goes mostly ignored.

Anotherr drawing where I am extremely happy with the sense of depth and dimension. As you can see, my drawings were beginning to become much more detailed.

Figure studies from today’s class— showed my students different approaches to illustration exploring shape, line, rendering and anatomical stylization!

Three sisters

I really like this one. Again, the angular lines really worked for this pose. It's a friend of mine while we enjoyed sun and beverages at a local beach spot a few summers ago. For some reason, I feel I can really nail heads and torsos... But arms and legs throwe for a loop.

This is absolutely a shot in the dark, but if anyone knows of a way to read Jan Gay's On Going Naked without having to spend hundreds of dollars on a vintage copy, let me know.

I also have advice. Everybody loves reading advice on the computer, so I'll share it: the best thing you can do right now is log off as hard as you can. Go outside, talk to people in real life where it's actually kind of rude to talk about the news, try to actually see the friends you usually just text message. Go for a long drive and turn the phone off while you do it. Get back into your hobbies or pick one and learn it for a while. Watch one of those studio movies that reviews called "wildly miscalculated" and you haven't seen since high school. Play an album you like but find embarrassing. Go to free community events even if they sound stupid. If you take the freeway, try the surface streets. Go to a bad diner and just order some bad coffee because even bad coffee is good coffee. You can't help anybody when you're exhausted and keep posting one million college-educated rewordings of "I would love to be dead right now" on the computer. Walk away from the thing and try out some of those normal things you hear about and if you get bored that's wonderful because we're not supposed to get bored anymore. It turns out boredom is the Cadillac of feelings.

In this one I transitioned into a style with more angular lines. I really loved how this one turned out, but I was never really able to recapture the look and feel again.

High grain color photo in muted tones, a feminine body white skin, relaxed tummy and hunched up a little, knees drawn close to their chest. Their body crisscrossed with lines, scars, skin folds. The faint red indentation from a bra strap, the body is almost decontextualized, limbs hidden in a robe and sheets. Only the high cut waist of underwear and a single exposed breast indicate what you are looking at. Their body is relaxed and unposed, not flexed or angled towards the camera, nothing stretched or angled l to lengthen the waist and round the hips, no open and lifted chest. Just a body. Sitting.

This drawing captures the line economy I was looking for rather nicely. It gives a wonderful feeling of dimension without being overly crowded.

A friend of mine posing on Wreck Beach is the subject of this drawing. I really really love the energy of this one and will one day re-explore it in a more detailed manner.

If you're going to be modeling for college art classes at 37 years old after a night of plumbing, Bayer Back and Body is definitely a good friend to have.
