A screenshot promoting RNZ's Saturday Mornings show, with an interview with Hilary Cass, horrible disingenuous transphobe, except for some reason they describe it as:

"New prescriptions for puberty blockers were to be banned by the Government just before Christmas, but an urgent High Court injunction has called a halt to the new regulations and a judicial review is set down for May.

The findings of an independent report and subsequent major clinical trial in the UK prompted the Health Minister Simeon Brown to press pause on the medications for new patients with gender dysphoria.

The four-year Cass Review, carried out for NHS England recommends limiting the use of puberty blockers to research settings. It also urges unhurried holistic care, caution around irreversible treatments, and the recognition of complex factors such as mental health, neurodiversity and social media as possible contributors to the rise in young people questioning their gender.

Baroness Dr Hilary Cass joins Susie live from the UK."

Presenting this - at the very least without a balancing view (eg the Australian review which rejected most of Cass's findings) - this is breathtakingly irresponsible from RNZ. And doing it during Auckland Pride is an extra abusive choice.

Parliament ditches X, formerly Twitter, over deepfakes Free Speech Union writes to the Speaker as Clerk of House says he doesn’t want his organisation associated with controversial platform.

The FSU in here promoting forced speech on their preferred platform and also making a basic legal error in doing so tells you all you need to know about the sincerity and quality of their free speech advocacy.

They're in too deep to admit they were wrong; Anti-vax is never the *only* crackpot belief they cling to.

Knocking over that one domino, admitting they were incorrect, would trigger a cognitive failure cascade that their (and our) brains are simply not wired to quietly accept.

Statement from NZCTU re Winston Peters and NZF who lied about Inions in their statement about the egregious contractor bill: In September last year we sought a meeting with Winston Peters and New Zealand First to talk about the Employment Relations Amendment Bill and what could be done to protect workers in New Zealand. We met with them in October and again shortly before the Bill was passed by National, ACT, and New Zealand First
We will always fight to ensure that ALL political parties hear what matters to working people. We reached out to New Zealand First multiple times on the Employment Relations Amendment Bill and will reach out to them and other political parties any time a Bill threatens the livelihood of working New Zealanders.
We're doing our bit to stand up for workers and their unions in Aotearoa New Zealand.
It's our hope that our political leaders endeavour to do the same.

Winston Peters never cares what rubbish he spouts but RNZ should definitely do some fact checking before they put a lie on a headline. Just stop regurgitating Politician’s lies. #NZpol @rnzrss.bsky.social

Parliament ditches X, formerly Twitter, over deepfakes Free Speech Union writes to the Speaker as Clerk of House says he doesn’t want his organisation associated with controversial platform.

Clerk of the House David Wilson tells me it was him who decided to stop Parliament posting on Twitter.

He says Grok's abuse imagery and the lack of a serious response from the platform were the reason.

I only joined the Greens a year ago (although I've party voted for them for years) and have been very impressed by their democratic processes and inclusivity. There are many ways to express disagreement without complaining anonymously to the media and making spurious claims about the process #nzpol

“The focus here was making sure that our candidates were ready to be members of Parliament ready to contribute in a Green government,” Swarbrick said.

Candidates needed to be ready not just to serve as ministers, but to have support networks in place for what would inevitably be a huge amount of online hate and the “awful workplace” of Parliament.

“It is really important to us that people are supported and ready to go in every sense of the word. The environment of politics is gruelling and full noise. ...We have seen immense pressure placed on individual people. It’s an incredibly toxic and awful workplace.”

The Green Party is finally taking its job of candidate selection, vetting, and pastoral care seriously and it is causing turmoil among the people who saw nothing wrong with the previous status quo that resulted in the party losing three MPs in two years thepost.co.nz/politics/360...

In genetics:
'Trans-acting' = a gene exerts influence on another gene on a different chromosome.
'Expression' = when a gene produces an effect in the cell

They tagged two of the most common terms in genetic research for defunding because we put fascist tech-bros in charge of our science. 😠

Exclusions spark tension as Greens tighten list rules Members complain that the new process has created a “very James Shaw party list” of people who play “respectability games”.

The whole idea of "a very James Shaw party list" is weird, because Green party lists have always been ranked by the members, not the leadership. If lists under Shaw promoted "safer" candidates, its because the membership wanted that.

The no personal grievance/unjustified grievance claim if you make over $200k is such a genius policy you gotta hand it to ACT. It pits middle income against high income so instead of uniting we scoff. Who’s gonna feel sorry for someone on $200k? In return, people who are on it get to be salty at..
