We have seen a lot of 'Know Your Rights' information, which we are so grateful for...and we also know the way the carceral system works there are other things to consider.

So for Oklahoma we've got some rights and realities to think about.

Yes. If DHS can barge in, say your visa was revoked, be told you have a green card, say it's revoked too, and then disappear you so that neither your lawyer nor your family can find you, then all the guardrails are gone. There is no policy, practice, or law protecting anyone.

For you to pursue those things & turn a blind eye to injustice, means you are willing to allow fascism, racism, transphobia, etc., for your own peace of mind. Community members are vanishing, and have been. If your favorite politician can't speak on those things they need to find a new job.

I asked Turner if they think of Benedict regularly now that they’re out of office. They said yes, every time they look at their child, “I think about how so many systems failed Nex.” “I often think about how easy it was for some people to change or to falter when they thought it would be different if it was a homicide versus a suicide or self-inflicted,” they say through tears. “What difference does it make? We are saying that the rhetoric is just as damaging as the bullet or the blow. That is the point of a transgenocide, the loss of life, and it doesn't matter how it happens.” Benedict is only one of so many trans youths we’ve lost in the last 12 months. Ashton Clatterbuck, 22, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, who was studying journalism and political science, died by suicide on February 27, 2024. And, according to a legal filing by the Washington State attorney general last week against Trump’s gender-affirming care executive order, one Washington girl, “a bright and gentle soul,” died by suicide the month Trump took office.

Brooks asks again if it's actually specified that it covers incarcerated people. And some back and forth indicates it's not specific, just the intent of the author. Daniels says she thinks it authorizes people enough to cover duties.

Senator Brooks starts questioning, asking if this applies to incarcerated folks or staff (incarcerated folks) and is it happening currently (not a direct answer, but she says that there are currently trans and intersex inclusive policies this would override).
