Dubious author achievement unlocked: Signing a body part for the first time!

A fifth grade boy at a local book fair already had an author's name scrawled across his forehead and asked me to sign his neck. Turns out, not that easy to sign on skin with a Sharpie!

Yes, same with my most recent book (historical fantasy) which my publisher wanted to get in at around 60k words which was 10k shorter than the one before it.

Yeah, hoping we see word counts trending lower in 2025 but will know later this year. Horror did more than double over the prior year, so we're definitely seeing big growth there and probably even more this year.

Thanks! The data comes from all over, so just wanted to collect it all in one place. 🙂

Thank you! I did remove Graphic Novels from the word count totals because they generally tend to have far fewer words anyway. But hopefully we see some movement toward shorter books for the rest of the pack in 2025!
