It is a very easy reason: Investors don't think long-term. They want money now. Investments in technology, new technology means risk, means losing money. So they stick to the well-known. There is no risk for those responsible: They get their bonus and move on.

Golden Tiger prancing happily through the snow. The snow is just indicated by the white area and the snowflakes as well as the sno-covered branches that mirror the look of the tiger's paws. The background is monochrome brown.

Today's favorite artwork is by Hokusai. I love this old tiger. He looks so smug while dancing through the snow. It is one of Hokusai's last works, he created this in 1849, when he was already 88 years old, shortly before he died.

Zola is indeed great. I read his L'Œuvre during our last vacation and fell in love again.

Martin J. Heade was nearly fogotten. But one thing is unusual: Theodore Stebbins mentions that his works turn up regularly in garage sales or in attics. So chances are quite good to find one... or one of the many fakes.

Who would have thought? I discovered George #Inness' works a couple of months ago. Now, I am enchanted. His paintings have such a dreamlike quality, especially the later ones where the subject takes a step away from reality and transforms itself into a coloured haze in the shape of a #landscape.

Eugene Boudin, seen variously as the last precursor of Impressionism or the first of the pack, spent most of his long life in Honfleur and painted every corner of it; sometimes we miss the quality of his pictures that made them seem revolutionary.
