For context, Chicago was for more violent for its duration than Minnesota is right now, and I think national media cared for about 18 hours bc it was a slow day. It’s not feasible to have people driving around for 12 hours a day and only getting a protester or two arrested once a week.

Last month I wrote a story about what it’s like to follow Border Patrol around.

Videos of ICE arresting priests, detaining kids, and shooting women all break through the noise. They motivate otherwise unmotivated people to pay attention. MN is a disaster for the GOP, and will cost them. Trump is too gutless to fully crack down, and too spiteful to give in and stop the raids.

There are places where Trump, as president, has broad freedom of action. And there are places where Trump, as president, has been able to act unilaterally because the main point of opposition, Congress (and SCOTUS), support his program. (1/?)

The number of adults who believe Donald Trump has magical powers to bend all of spacetime to his whims, while also bragging about how he identified a giraffe on a test, is disturbing. Trump can't just decide we don't have elections or government anymore, and get everyone to nod along.

I am imploring people to stop saying we won't have midterms. Trump can't cancel them. States run their elections, not the White House. Assuming we'll never have a say in who governs us again is spreading authoritarian propaganda and panic. Don't wallow in despair, find a candidate to support.

FWIW, this is why I'm not afraid of Trump attempting to declare nationwide martial law. To enforce it, he would need every single person involved with any aspect of local, county, or state law enforcement - plus a million+ military and militia. They don't have the numbers or the public buy-in.

Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino says that the whistles and honking actually help the feds make apprehensions. I witnessed the complete opposite in New Orleans.

As CBP agents menaced Chicago area residents, caravans of protesters followed, honking their horns and blowing whistles...Protesters decked their vehicles out in anti-ICE flags, or scrawled things like “Bovino, you a BITCH” on the back windows of their pickup trucks.
