I'm not sure whether financial incentives wouldn't introduce their own problems, e.g., who could afford not to review? Who would be inclined to accept just any invitation to review? But still, something has to change.

Ja, alle schreiben zu viel. Wenn man daran etwas ändern will, müsste man als erstes aufhören, quantifizierten Publikationsoutput als Qualifikationserfordernis zu sehen. Ich könnte ja einem nach oben gedeckelten Lebenszeitkontingent an Publikationen etwas abgewinnen. 😇

Colleagues and I got a paper rejected that we submitted more than a year ago. I'm aware how difficult it is to find reviewers and how the peers that actually do reviews are overloaded. But this is still super frustrating.
