At the IRS, the accessibility check was known to kill projects right before deployment. Thanks to Jared and a small team of dedicated practitioners, Direct File’s was chill and collegial. We are lucky to get to learn from such a dedicated and skilled practitioner.

It was some of the proudest work of my career (I was one of the USDS folks on it), and it breaks my heart to see it shut down. But, we’ve proved it can be done and can be popular, and I will hope a sane future administration brings it back.

I worked with Merici on direct file — she is a dedicated public servant and it was an honor to work with her and build something people loved. It’s heart breaking to see all that torn apart, and I’m grateful she is able to share some of what she saw with such a wide audience.

Their flour is terrific too. I always buy a bag when I stop by and use it in my own baking.
