In law school you really only read the big cases.

I probably read about this guy from the Judge Judy show while I was working with the Innocence Project as a 1L. he was released only a couple of years before that. After over a decade in prison for a crime he didn't commit.

There were also a LOT of issues of race and class tied up in that case, too.

Anyway. Prior to that, I had never heard of a prosecutor wanting a jury to ignore DNA evidence befire that, but I guess in 1989 they did. And probably other times.

There was DNA evidence under the victim's nails that belonged to someone besides the defendant. When we polled the jury after, they had bought the DA's argument that it "wasn't enough" to count. That was 2006, and the prosecutor built a case on debunking the DNA evidence.

I'm watching the new Judge Judy show, where they sort of relitigate old cases. This ep involves a coerced false confession that contradicts DNA evidence. It's similar to the murder case I worked in SF Public Defender when I was there on co-op.

I finally cancelled Xbox Game Pass, because Microsoft, but that means I basically have to start from scratch in The Blue Prince. And my notebook is packed away in some box I haven't sorted yet. I'm choosing to focus on this so I stop freaking out about the rest of my move.

The last 4 1/2 decades of Democratic politics shows us that, on a federal level at least, they can't be pushed left. This is why they court Republicans, not progressives.

i really don't understand how that writer can simultaneously critique neoliberalism generally and democrats specifically but conclude that we should continue to support them. for an "illusion of hope" and because maybe we could've pushed harris left. the cognitive dissonace is truly astounding.
