Spent the evening talking with voters and friends at St. Joe Pride!

For the families of victims of that day and the countless first responders who answered the call, some of whom gave their lives in the subsequent rescue efforts, we mourn your loss and honor your memory.

The longstanding ramifications and tragedies of Tuesday, September 11, 2001 reverberate even today, 24 years later.

As for me, I feel compelled to recommit myself to the non-violent tradition of political activism that has long animated my own beliefs. In the tradition of John Lewis, I believe the way through troubling times is with strength, solidarity, character, and love.

Political violence is not new, but today's events, to me, feel like we are stepping further into chaos and moving into an even more troubling period in the public life of our nation and possibly this community.

The First Amendment protects the freedom of speech from government intervention against the People. This freedom coincides with a civic tradition which calls for a free exchange of ideas in civil discourse. A functioning democracy requires such exchanges.

Today was a day with too much violence, in Colorado, in Utah, and even here in St. Joseph.🧵

Post regarding a Labor Day rally

I couldn't agree more - we need everyone who believes in a government of the people, by the people, and for the people to win this thing!

I think we should be able to hold two somewhat contradictory ideas at once, namely:

1) Centrists need to stop being such babyback bitches when it comes to taking criticism from the left

2) Progressives need to stop being such unapologetic assholes to people they need to build coalitions with
