Folk 'n' Hell descends into the Dutch peatlands for Moloch (2022) — where ancient bodies rise, curses linger, and the bog hides something older than sin. 💀

Folklore, body horror, and a finale that hits like a ritual blade.

Folk horror hits different in autumn — the smell of damp earth, the whisper of something ancient in the trees, and that feeling you’re being watched by something that remembers when the village was still a forest. #folkhorror #autumnvibes

Folk 'n' Hell discuss Azrael (2024), a Rapture-set, wordless horror with mute cults, fiery burned ones, and a demonic birth.

Is it folk horror brilliance… or just borrowing the vibes?

🎧 Tune in for cults, tunnels, blood rituals & plenty of debate.

🐺✨ FolknHell dives into The Company of Wolves (1984) — Neil Jordan’s dreamlike fairy tale. Blurring nightmares, desires, and folklore in a lush, surreal world, we unpack its eerie metaphors, gender dynamics, and why this folk-horror gem still has a bite.

New Folk ’n’ Hell!

We dive into Laurin (1989) — Robert Sigl’s German oddity where fairy tale meets Hammer horror. Vanishing kids, spectral visions & crimson-soaked dream logic. But is it folk horror?

Ever wondered what’s lurking under the Dutch peat? 👀

Sink waist-deep into Moloch (2022)—a bog-soaked folk horror of generational curses, body horror, & way too much vomit.

Mist, murder, possession, and a finale that punches harder than a peat-clogged boot.

Damien McCarthy's next film, Hokum, has been picked up for distribution by NEON. Starring Adam Scott, the film's out next year. If you've seen Caveat and, in particular, for folk horror fans, the superb Oddity, you'll know why this is great news

This week FolknHell treks into the Swiss Alps with Sennentuntschi (2010), Michael Steiner’s strange and unsettling take on an Alpine legend. 3 isolated goatherds, in a drunken haze of absinthe, fashion a woman out of broomsticks, rags, and paint. Shenanigans ensue...

I haven't read any of Barker's books since I was in my early 20s. I'm afraid to go back to them now as I'm afraid they won't be as good as I remember them. Weaveworld blew my tiny mind

Oh, the Candyman is absolutely a folk horror. Isolated community under threat from a demon borne of the circumstances that have oppressed them. Barker's original story makes it even more explicit.

I'd have to go for Robert Eggers' The Witch. It's folk horror through and through and a genuinely disturbing story.

That pretty much sums up my feelings on Together. The central idea is a good one, but I'm not sure how well it was translated into the final film. Enjoyed it but didn't love it.

I thought Villager would fit into the broad folk horror category. Okay, not much actual horror but that could equally apply to films like Valerie & Her Week of Wonders or November - both classics of the genre.

It's also a hugely enjoyable book ;-)

New episode!

Myth, madness & misogyny meet in the Alps. A mute woman, a goat, and dark folklore collide in Sennentuntschi.

In the new episode of Folk n Hell, we unpack Sennentuntschi, a schnapps-soaked, WTF-filled tale of alpine horror.
