In order of the colors of the rainbow, reds, oranges, yellows, green, blues, and purples, a variety of zinnias, hydrangea, cosmos, clematis, phlox, a fern and rudbeckia fill the basket.
Surprised to discover I never posted this one from last year. All homegrown.

Aww, thank you! I've had major work/life/balance shifts in the last year that put a wrench in having time to photograph and login to social media. I'm honestly surprised anyone noticed I was gone, it always felt like posting into a void here but your comment really warmed my heart, thank you!

Drizzly July morning here in Iowa and I've been neglecting flower photo opportunities lately but here's a couple from my rounds this AM.

A shallow-focus image set in a garden environment dominated with pale purple and pink of out-of-focus coneflower in the foreground. In sharp focus in the center of the image a monarch butterfly rests on a coneflower, it's orange and black wingspan covering most of the flower it rests upon.
As my milkweed recovers from storms doing a number on its flowers, the coneflower continues to keep the monarchs coming back.

A horizontal shallow focus image of a garden bouquet hanging over a distressed black wood surface, with a rustic wood wall in the background. The bouquet is full of roses of various colors and forms, accompanied by deep orange coreopsis, dame's rockett, vervascum, a large open-centered blue scabiosia, young ferns, mock orange, and privet blooms.
To walk through the garden and gather such beauty up, smelling and sighing with all the happiness Spring brings. I love days like today.

Only recently! It's just a used mini fridge I bought off Marketplace. I knew I needed to store my peonies somehow and my icepack/cooler carton was not going to cut it lol. It's done the job so far and it's a relief to be able to have a place to cut and store when I don't have time to use them yet!
31.05.2024 13:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Kind of depends. For this bouquet I wanted to show off the spring garden personality, so went for a bit of everything, but frequently I pick whatever blooms are most useable and store what I don't use in my floral fridge.
I am trying to get better about pre-planning. It works... sometimes. π

Thanks! I solarized this area with black plastic sheeting for a season or two to kill off the grass first, and then started planting in 2021. It's had ugly stages, so keep that in mind. I still weed out Creeping Charlie frequently, and sometimes long stems of grass pop up too, among other things.
23.05.2024 19:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Every year I throw out more seed as well, just to fill in patches and all that. I have another part of my garden where I've done this change as well, but about twice the size. Patches are more obvious there but get filled in more as the season heats up/things come out of dormancy.
23.05.2024 18:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Work in progress since Spring of 2021. It could have been accomplished more aggressively if I'd immediately seeded/planted more perennials at the outset, but initially solarized the grass, laid down mulch, and mass planted dahlias along with other annuals for some more instant satisfaction.
23.05.2024 18:53 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0A vertical garden meadow scene full of flowers and lush green foliage. In the bottom out of focus foreground pale purple allium heads make a gentle cup shaped arrangement around bright white Shasta daisies in the middle of the scene. The daisies give way to tall twin spikes of pink lupines with yellow buttercups below. In the upper background of the scene purple lupines and brilliant violet Siberian irises blur into a deep green meadowscape.
My meadowscaped front lawn in spring makes me so pleased. We have gone through some very ugly phases with it but knew it would take time. Worth it.

A monochrome digital drawing of a mermaid with long wet hair draped over her shoulders and upper body sitting on a large fishhook as if it were a swing, curling her tail up under herself. She's a somewhat sly glance downward possibly toward whatever the intended catch is.
Still not really a #MerMay guy but I got this idea unbidden and just ended up drawing it despite the fact that I'm sure it really makes no sense. It's called 'Bait' and I apologize. (Once you start drawing those Muchaesque hair curls you want to do it forever.)
03.05.2024 19:06 β π 26 π 10 π¬ 0 π 2A vertical image of a floral arrangement on a dark green background, lit from the right side with soft shadows on the left. The arrangement sits on a mauve colored gauzy fabric with matching frayed chiffon ribbon, draping over a distressed black wood pallet. The arrangement is placed in a traditional square wood woven basket and is turned at an angle so that a corner faces the camera. Out of the basket spills an abundance of lily of the valley foliage and lilacs in an icy blue color. The shape of the design makes a central downward arc of lilacs, with sprays of lilac tapering off both sides. It makes a vague dragon or seahorse shape against the lush green leaves of the lily of the valley.
I cannot un-see the seahorse... or dragon in this design. It's all I see.
Which one does it look like to you folks?

A vertical image looking down on a shallow open-weave lattice wood basket on a dark wood background. In the basket short sprigs of lilacs in varying shades of pale purple lay together in loose clusters. A frayed chiffon ribbon in a shade of dusty lavender weaves under and over the clusters in a romantic display.
Still obsessed with the lilacs growing in the alley. I'm fairly sure the double variety is 'Alice Christenson', and I am head over heels in love.

In some ways I feel like BSky users are more... reluctant to interact, compared mastodon users. Could absolutely be just my own experience and being a sample size of one, or maybe just the communities I'm in/tried to interact with.
