I prefer deforming, which better describes what is being done to remove human rights our forefathers fought to enshrine in law, and protect before my parents were born.

You might want to read the reports more carefully and critically next time. The only right the governments are really talking about is Article 8, and they’re talking about how to restrict it for certain people. No other ‘reforms’ or ‘modifications’. Just removal of rights.

Just to be clear, it IS about removing rights. Specifically it’s about removing Article 8 rights - private and family life - to make it easier to deport people.

You won’t find advocates able to mention any other rights here.

Always be wary of politicians insisting that the only way to truly “take back control” is to remove our rights and freedoms. We lose our protection from abuses of power while our country loses trust and influence on the world stage. That’s not control. It’s weakness.

“Reforming” is one of those weasel words like “modernising” which, in the mouths of bad faith actors, can hide a multitude of sins.

Funny how when people talk about ‘reforming’ the ECHR, they always mean removing rights from people they don’t like.
