In the last 24 hours, the NYS Mesonet's Schaghticoke station has had 3.51" (so far, most in NY). That's just .1" shy of a 24-hour record at that site.
In the 90 days *before* this period, they were the driest station in the whole state, with 4.1" (in east-central NY). #nywx

Roll back regulations to lower housing costs - The Boston Globe
The sheer volume of Massachusettsโ regulations can drive up the total cost of construction in significant ways. But some rules are no longer necessary.
The Boston Globe Editorial Board is running a whole series on the stateโs excessive building code regulation over the next three weeks โ single-stair, Massachusettsโs unusually low high-rise definition, and the mess of different septic system rules www.bostonglobe.com/2025/09/21/o...

The reason theyโre going to take up such an insane amount of space is that the city wants to dedicate them to each building (vs. international best practice of having them be city-owned and shared), and only collect 3x/week (vs. up to 14x/week in Barcelona).

DOT to start installing center-running bus lanes on Brooklynโs Flatbush Avenue | amNewYork
The cityโs DOT announced that it will begin installing new bus lanes on Brooklynโs primary thoroughfare, Flatbush Avenue, later this fall.
The new center running bus lane on Flatbush Avenue will speed up the B41 and bring safety improvements to what is currently a dangerous traffic corridor. Weโve been fighting for this project for years, and Iโm excited itโs moving forward! www.amny.com/news/bus-lan...

Two times as many people die each year in LA County from car accidents than in the ENTIRE COUNTRY from apartment fires. And the vast majority of these deaths are in older buildings without fire sprinklers.

It seems counter intuitiveโฆ obviously, more redundancy is better, right?

California's SB 79 has now passed the State Senate, after passing the State Assembly yesterday. It's now on to the governor's desk.
It's a big change in zoning policy for California's cities that will encourage substantial additional housing in neighborhoods around the state's transit stations.
