I am mostly just here to read posts from people whose opinions I respect, many of whom moved from another site because it got taken over by a basket of deplorables. (He/him/his)

Yeah, I know, but it's one of the harder parts of being a parent for me, that I didn't anticipate. I thought I'd enjoy watching them grow up. I don't. All I do is worry about fentanyl and fascism.

Well, my kids are under 10, & they're already too aware of what a shit-show they're getting. To me, it's about hoping they keep their bliss as long as possible, and knowing that's not realistic. I look at old toddler photos, & my kids are ALWAYS smiling and giggling. They don't do that anymore.

Sorry. It's dark, but really spoke to me when my kids were toddlers. Maggie Smith does that a lot.

"Good Bones"
by Maggie Smith
Life is short, though I keep this from my children.
Life is short, and I’ve shortened mine
in a thousand delicious, ill-advised ways,
a thousand deliciously ill-advised ways
I’ll keep from my children. The world is at least
fifty percent terrible, and that’s a conservative
estimate, though I keep this from my children.
For every bird there is a stone thrown at a bird.
For every loved child, a child broken, bagged,
sunk in a lake. Life is short and the world
is at least half terrible, and for every kind
stranger, there is one who would break you,
though I keep this from my children. I am trying
to sell them the world. Any decent realtor,
walking you through a real shithole, chirps on
about good bones: This place could be beautiful,
right? You could make this place beautiful.

I feel this daily.

It reminds me of my favorite poem since becoming a dad.

In 1946, cartoonist & illustrator Noel Sickles was sent by Life magazine to sketch the Nuremberg trials. Here is his sketch of the execution of Joachim Von Ribbentrop, who claimed at trial that his boss had made all of the important decisions, & that he was only following orders.

I would have said season 4 was the best, but after seeing that series finale, I don't know. It was SO good, it elevated the whole season 5.

Totally agree. That was a perfect finale.

I think it was a really good show. They managed to end it well.

We just got home, and had such a good time. One of my favorite series finales ever. Up there with Six Feet Under. I'm glad we waited to go to the theater today.

Why is no reporter asking Trump this directly? He called it a hoax several times. It is obviously not a hoax. Any other president would have been asked that simple question. Do journalists just fear him that much, or do journalists no longer have the ambition to be, y'know, GOOD journalists?

Only β‰ˆ40% of eligible white voters voted for Trump in 2024. β‰ˆ60% of eligible white voters voted for VP Harris, or, sadly, didn't vote at all. I take a modicum of comfort from this. In theory, the majority of Americans arent racist scumbags, just a very small plurality of actual voters in 2024.

This has always been a Bluesky-first campaign. But as of today, we will no longer be using Twitter. At all.

And I'm calling on other candidates to follow suit.
