I couldn’t unsubscribe from Disney plus of their suspension of Jimmy Kimmel because I wasn’t subscribed. Now that they are putting him back on, do I have to subscribe? I’m not sure how the logic of consumer activism works.

Don’t worry, it happens to the best of us.

By which I mean - it also happens to me. I’m the best of us.

Since the game is quite difficult, I thought of just adding the new pentaquark as additional win condition - it lets you win with a strange quark. But maybe I’m just trying to let myself win for a change.

Morgan Wallen Selling 'Get Me to God's Country' Merch Following 'SNL' Controversy β€” The Hollywood Reporter Days after the viral moment, the singer has listed T-shirts and trucker hats with the phrase for $45 on his website.

I’m off to God’s country, where I can off the good people who believe in God by selling them the idea that they are better than other people. Getting rich off merch for viral remarks is what living in God’s country is all about.

RIP Val Kilmer. For me you’ll always be Nick, the rock star from Top Secret whose father came up with the name while he was shaving, proved he was definitely not Mel Torme by singing Tutti Frutti in a diner. I’m still looking for that album Kilmer recorded, including β€˜are you lonesome tonight’

I love that Lauren! As a political theorist I always think there’s room for a dialogue about the way ideological spectrums are constructed. This is a great example of how you to justify more complex models - the explanatory value of an additional axis here is striking

My dog Winnie is not super big into cuddling. But I bet you can create a thermometer on the basis of her inclination to cuddle - if it gets cold she’ll get snuggly all over a sudden. I bet she thinks of me like a big oven which is fair because I think of her like a big pillow. It’s called love.

Heard that #Girls5Eva series was canceled and won’t get a fourth season at @netflix.com - what a damn shame. In their honor, I’m playing all three soundtrack albums today, racking up those Apple Music plays. A toast to girls5Eva - the best things haven’t happened yet!

Why does etiquette come into it? If you feel grateful you know them and are happy to receive the candy box, you can send them a thank you note to express that gratitude. If you feel about the same as you do when you get other advertisement spam mail, no etiquette should compel you to send a note.

Grading student papers has made me a lot better detecting chatGPT generated content; one of its primary characteristics is repetition of the same phrases, word for word.

I don't know why we had to have these elections for people - and especially journalists - to stop posting on X. It's nice that BlueSky is enjoying a resurgence - we need a place to be what Twitter was, for all its flaws.

About a year ago I wrote an angry comment to my NPR station asking why are they still engaging via X if they care about journalistic integrity. I thought the comment was poorly written and didn't send it, but the sentiment was real.

Of course that’s not how things work out. I shall not spoil any more but I spent the week stuck in the arctic. It was beautiful and full of terror. It’s time to come back to reality and face our own looming and slowly unfolding disaster.

Then the captain concocted a wild plan that will have him escape the situation by going on a death march for 800 miles on an ice desert so he could get help for the ships. It was a desperate crazy plan but all I could think was: you lucky bastard, you get to try something and get away from it all.

Surrounded by a mix of people refusing to accept inconvenient facts, others who only care about their immediate situation and those who just follow orders - he walked around lonely, helpless in the face of the slowly unfolding disaster. It felt appropriate.

The morning after the elections I was doing the dishes and watching episode 3 of The Terror - a series about two British ships stranded in the arctic. The captain of The Terror, forever Hari Seldon to me, was sounding the alarm to no avail.

Either way it’s incredibly exasperating to try and play with other humans, find only bots and then have them mimic _the worst aspect of playing against other humans_ and basically nothing else.

I imagine the developers wanted to make them believable as human players and probably had them wait some time drawn from a distribution around the mean of how long human players take to respond, or perhaps they even mimic human patterns (I noticed they are sometimes β€˜online’ and take multiple turns)
