Exciting wildlife encounter at #WALBEL with the appearance of a "large mouse" on the pitch! #JoeRodent showed excellent footwork to outsmart the Belgian keeper. #WALvBEL #JoeRodon #CroesoyGymru #Rat #Largemouse #FAWales

There were so many #fungi in #Casehill woods today that there wasn't #mushroom for anything else! π 35 species seen. My personal favourite was a delicate coral #fungus.

The point I'm trying to make is that this is a complex system of systems with multiple hazards, many of which have not been considered (e.g. speed limits, road design, lighting, emergency response etc). A focus on a single cause may improve things, consideration of whole-system safety is essential.

I do agree that large SUVs are the major cause (you only have to compare their mass and frontal geometry to see this), but pedestrian distraction may be a factor. The frequency of jaywalking has noticeably increased and someone paying less attention will be less likely/able to react quickly.

It would be interesting if pedestrian distraction was also a factor. I'm seeing an increase in near misses on my bike caused by people stepping out into the road without looking because they are either staring at their phones or are trying to listen for traffic whilst having headphones on.

Composite image of stained glass panels from St Michael's Mount. The image shows a bearded man in a turban looking toward a panel made up of multiple individual images arranged together in a digital collage. The final picture has had a digital filter applied to corrupt the colours.
I finally paid the extra charge to visit the castle at #StMichaelsMount and I'm very glad that I did! Not only does the Chevy Chase dining hall have a fantastic frieze, but the windows are full of #stainedglass. @nationaltrust.org.uk #glitchart #digitalart #reimagined #glitchlab #glitch

Digital collage showing a black and white image of St Nicholas Church in St Ives with white lines reaching into the darkened sky. Three balls float above, one of which is orange.
Visited the @tatestives.bsky.social and was so inspired by the works of Liliane Lijn, Barbara Hepworth and John Wells that I created this digital re-imagining of #StNicholasChapel.

A beautiful northern wheatear was the highlight of a pre-rain walk to Lavernock Point. Significantly fewer hirudines than yesterday. Also of note: skylarks over and a few chiffchaff in the hedges. #birdingwales

New studies suggest a 70% chance of #AMOC collapse by 2100 at current #GHG emission levels. This could cause severe impacts to food production and widespread coastal flooding in the UK within the lifetimes of our children. Urgent action is needed!

View over Colwyn Bay towards the Clwydian hills with grey clouds and rain showers in the distance.
Wonderfully moody skies at Rhos Point this morning. Bonxie offshore harrying Sandwich Terns, with a GBB Gull keeping a close watch. Pairs of Common Gulls and Oystercatchers on shore, with small groups of Cormorants streaming by, and 20 or so Herring Gulls bobbing around. #birdingwales
