Friday was a day of good things.

I am calling out the light during the golden hour as I drove home. The light here is remarkable. I think it is something to do with being so far north. It was a treat after a week of cold, dark, very wet rain.

My neice gave away some of her old books at her wedding. Each one was wrapped and described. Perfect at a wedding where both families and all friends are peak geek!

At least it's actual Lorem Ipsum, and not Cupcake Ipsum, or Pirate Ipsum.

It really was! I wasn't a knitter at the time, which was a real shame.

So yesterday's good thing turned out to be that the pup had not in fact swallowed a needle, and the entire loaf of bread we gave her was unnecessary. The x-ray on the other hand was expensive, but very, very reassuring.

The best attended talk I ever arranged for science outreach was about the Mathematics of Knitting. The audience was about 60/40 knitters (with knitting) and ultra-nerdy peeps who were presumably mathematicians!

I hear you, and feel your pain. Here it is cold, dark, windy, and very, very rainy. Horrible weather. With moods to match.

Really pleased with it! And that the interwebz found photos of the event!

Update

Older heads than mine think my great grandmother probably died in the early 1950s. So she may have made it after all.

But still. How cool. And what an honour to have to repair it.

The pup, incidentally, is fine. No needles or pins on her xray.

(It's been a day of looking at things inside other things).

It seems it was 1945, and the date matches the day of the week.

Whoever made it stiffened it with this invitation to a cocktail party at Claridges. (My mother's aunt was an actress, the invitation would have been for her).

It felt like finding a scrap of papyrus in a mummy!

A hand made needke case that opens out like a book. The inside of the right cover has been shredded, and there is a tangle of different yarns in the middle.

In other news, the dog disemboweled my needlecase.

Not watching the news is an important part of my mental health. I skim the Guardian and sometimes listen to newsy podcasts.

There was a moment yesterday when I thought "I must remember this for my daily blessings".

Can I remember what it was?

Can I, hell!

But the weather was good. I took rubbish to the tip. The dogs loved their bones.

And reminding myself of those joys has made me feel better.
