"IT rained and it rained and it rained. Piglet told himself that never in all his life, and he was goodness knows how oldβthree, was it, or four?βnever had he seen so much rain."
Ugh.
Lighthouses are built in places that are very cold, and very wet. As you'd expect.

I am sure an imperial soldier's effectiveness is in inverse proportion to how many names he has. A fun piece of research, perhaps!
A stream running down a sandy beach to the sea
So I my arm is slowly getting better, but I am feeling worse. Tired and achey. And I have lost my wrist brace.
But yesterday's good thing remains my support network, and how funny the dogs are.

The sculptures of the Kelpies in Falkirk = two giant horses heads
Day 2 of having the soft cast & sling & I am SO over it already!
But VERY glad I didn't land on stone or concrete.
Sunday's good thing was laughter & board games with pals. This week's good thing is my support network.

Today's random pic seems to be the Kelpies
Turns out it is broken! So I guess Sunday's good thing is finding that out!

Saturday's good things ware not breaking my elbow, a short wait in A&E, and pain meds!
My arm is sore, and not very useful, but already feeling a bit better.

A road leading to a vanishing point with golden fields on either side
Friday was a day of good things.
I am calling out the light during the golden hour as I drove home. The light here is remarkable. I think it is something to do with being so far north. It was a treat after a week of cold, dark, very wet rain.

And hooray for using it!

Thursday's good thing....
Finishing this hat.
I spun the white yarn myself, in all its lumpy glory.

My neice gave away some of her old books at her wedding. Each one was wrapped and described. Perfect at a wedding where both families and all friends are peak geek!

13.11.2025 13:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So yesterday's good thing turned out to be that the pup had not in fact swallowed a needle, and the entire loaf of bread we gave her was unnecessary. The x-ray on the other hand was expensive, but very, very reassuring.
13.11.2025 11:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The best attended talk I ever arranged for science outreach was about the Mathematics of Knitting. The audience was about 60/40 knitters (with knitting) and ultra-nerdy peeps who were presumably mathematicians!

Older heads than mine think my great grandmother probably died in the early 1950s. So she may have made it after all.

The outside of a hand made needle case with simple flowers embrodered on the cover
It probably wasn't made by my great grandmother, so I think it must have been one of my great aunts.
But still. How cool. And what an honour to have to repair it.
The pup, incidentally, is fine. No needles or pins on her xray.
(It's been a day of looking at things inside other things).

It seems it was 1945, and the date matches the day of the week.
Which means that....

An invitation card, torn around the edges and with bits missing, reading: Request the pleasure of your company at Claridge's on Monday, November 19th to meet William Dover of Famous Artists Corporation of Hollywood New Ball Room at 5-15. Cocktails. R.S.V.P. to 28 Brook Street, W.1.
Whoever made it stiffened it with this invitation to a cocktail party at Claridges. (My mother's aunt was an actress, the invitation would have been for her).
It felt like finding a scrap of papyrus in a mummy!

A hand made needke case that opens out like a book. The inside of the right cover has been shredded, and there is a tangle of different yarns in the middle.
In other news, the dog disemboweled my needlecase.
I always thought it was made by my great grandmother, but....

This is the #history degree I am doing. I am doing it part-time. So part time it will take me 12 years! But history is about the long-haul, so that fits!
I am loving it! Happy to say why, if anyone wants to know.

There was a moment yesterday when I thought "I must remember this for my daily blessings".
Can I remember what it was?
Can I, hell!
But the weather was good. I took rubbish to the tip. The dogs loved their bones.
And reminding myself of those joys has made me feel better.
