These are a critically endangered corvid endemic to Western Java.

I actually don't have a lot of green markers, so this one was challenging!

I then went to eBird and looked up JGM and to my surprise, there were no photos! This is partly due to it being recently being a subspecies of "short-tailed magpie" and them being possibly extinct in the wild. 3/3

I accidentally started drawing the wrong type of green magpie at first, and that's because Javan Green Magpies are critically endangered, so other similar-looking not endangered species were showing up on my stock photo searches for references. 2/3

This stunning oriole is the national bird of Venezuela, which makes its name particularly fitting.
This time I loosened up a little bit, and also used some half-dry copic marker I found among my art supplies. I like how it subtly smudged my hatching. #birdart 🪶 🐡 🎨

Two African penguins sit next to each other on a medium gray background. One bird leans its head towards the other’s chest, while the other stands comfortably. Penguins mate for life! These striking birds have black arches across their mostly white chests, black wings with white swirled markings, and large webbed black feet. Their beaks have a white mottling near their tips. Black spots their sleek white feathers occasionally.

#Birdtober day one is Banded Penguin, and we happen to have African Penguins (a type of banded penguin) at our zoo here in town! So I decided to draw some, and use it as an excuse to play with the new charcoal brushes in #Procreate.

There are four species of penguins in the genus Spheniscus, also known as banded penguins. I chose the Humboldt Penguin because I've seen it many times at the Prague zoo. Fun bird to start with!
