Tariffs are just additional sales tax that increases revenue for the government. Poor and middle class folks generally spend more of their income each month, so they contribute larger portion of their earnings. Democrat plan of taxing the rich is fairer and hurts fewer people and hurts them less.

So should we be hopeful that there is still much to surface and Robert Mueller was just one of the many initiatives that was effectively suppressed, or despair that the justice department is so overwhelmed by the volume of evidence of criminality that they are paralyzed into inaction?

As an immigrant myself, I am probably biased, but I think immigration (and the fact that so many people want(ed) to come here) is(was) America's superpower, getting fresh infusions of talent from school systems worldwide and keeping America the leader in so many areas.

My take. I think he is doing what he can and thank him for that. The reason he and other Dems cannot do more is because we the people did not give them the votes to do the work for us. We should remedy that for the upcoming midterms.

And who knows, if you do the right thing by your country, you are doing the right thing by the people that elected you, and they will happily put you back in again, and you may not even need Elon Musk's money to win the primary. Just a thought!

TBF some Dem leaders are, although to your point quite a few have abdicated. But they are ineffective because their numbers are low. It needs to be bipartisan at least with current situation, they would be heroes, Dem and Repub leaders, if they decided to represent their constituents as they should.

I learned multiplication tables when I was a kid, don't use it anymore because calculators, but still have intuition about numbers as a result. Similarly I think we should learn skills w/o machines during formative years, to teach these skills better to them later, so they can help us even more

It is amazing that we would willingly give up our global competitive advantage in STEM just to save a few bucks (or more realistically to save a few bucks for the super rich). Do these people not realize that their long term survival / well-being also depends on our STEM expertise?

I think this "buyers remorse" stuff is an act for the benefit of their constituents, hopefully they will see through it this time around, but given who they voted for in 2024, not very confident.

I guess he started out with honest intentions and was rebuffed by (the then politicized) academic community and now he has gone full MAGA where RFK Jr makes sense to him. Although TBF, the politicization was also likely a response to the 1st Trump admin. Anything less and Fauci would have been Birx.

We have a fairly ancient fiberglass cutting board. Fiberglass is technically plastic but it doesn't score like plastic boards and easier to clean than wood or plastic. Google says its still a risk for microplastics but much less than either plastic or wood.

When I read this, my first thought was whether the Republican politicians that vote for the cut would voluntarily fall on their swords to appease their Dear Leader, but then I realized they probably won't, because the people they represent stand ready to fall on theirs.

What is Bezos getting out of this? He founded Amazon, which involves some pretty solid risk taking, so he is obviously not a coward. Why is he backing down and bending the knee? What is he afraid of losing, can't imagine its all just for a lower tax rate?

But Democrats are not the supermajority, Republicans are, in both House and Senate. Why blame them for not doing what it is impossible for them to do? Maybe we the people should focus on voting them (at least the ones that are doing what they can) back to power so they can work for us?

The government already knows when someone is born and when naturalized, so they should be able to mail a voter card to you when you are 18+. They already do it for boys (Selective Service) why not for girls as well. Alternatively, qualified folks should be able to request for free with verification

Not Indian, American with Indian and Caribbean ancestry. She is about as Indian as my kids who were born and grew up here. Sorry, but when you say Indian, I feel there are implicit expectations of favoritism towards Indian aspirations over American ones, which are neither true nor should be.

@erictopol.bsky.social I thought the graphic lacks clarity. Is the ratio of red to black indicative of the fracture risk in each disease group? And the clusters are indicative of the prevalence of each bone density condition? Ideally would like to see it in the caption.
