Recent U.S. interventions—a major manoeuvre in the Caribbean, the designation as "terrorist" of an alleged cartel linked to the government, and the declaration that Venezuelan airspace is "closed"—renew the application of the Monroe Doctrine under the pretext of a supposed fight against drugs. These operations, lacking foundation and transparency, have already caused the death of civilians, including fishermen and workers. We believe they not only seek to fabricate a justification for aggression but also flagrantly violate national sovereignty and the principle of non-intervention, cornerstones of International Law. The latest warning regarding airspace represents the most serious step in this escalation. We are closely following developments in Venezuela and reject the threats from the United States. We demand the immediate cessation of all unilateral military operations in the region and express our solidarity with the Venezuelan people, with the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean who resist these imperialist aggressions, and with the civilian victims.

The Party of the European Left (EL) expresses its deep concern regarding the recent military mobilization by the United States in the waters of the Caribbean Sea and the disproportionate actions particularly directed against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

Europe keeps rearming while dismantling women’s rights.

This is not “oversight”.
It is patriarchy.

The numbers are brutal:
1 in 3 women in the EU has suffered physical or sexual violence.
One woman or girl is killed every 10 minutes by their intimate partner or family.

💜 5,000 marched in Brussels against gender-based violence.
Austerity policies are institutional & economic forms of violence, disproportionately harming women & gender minorities, said activist Alie Dirckx (Mirabal Belgium spokesperson).

Organized by Option Brésil, Économie & Politique, and IPEASA, the gathering brought together environmentalists, economists, and political, social, and trade-union movements from 11 countries.

🌍 An international meeting took place in Belém, before COP30, calling for a radical transformation of the global financial system to meet the climate challenge.

The EU’s official gender pay gap is 13.6% (but that only reflects hourly wages). When you include lower employment rates, part-time work, precarious jobs and unpaid care, the real earnings gap rises to 40%. That’s the equivalent of 59 days of unpaid work each year ~two months of lost income.
