Interests - Everton, football (though not a big fan of modern football), politics (trying to wean myself off), libraries (work). Probably in that order.

Rayner is gone so where is the media outrage at Farage and his taxing dodging scams? Home bought in his partners name avoiding stamp duty, GB News pay via a company to avoid 40% tax rate on his 92k pay from them.

How many more "bad adverts" do we need for VAR? It's completely ruining the game and yes there are a load of other things I hate about modern football but VAR easily the worst.

Notwithstanding that we were rubbish and need to improve significantly against Brighton. Yes we all know we need players in but its not too much to expect 11 premier league players to be able to pass the ball to each other (even if the formation doesn't help).

"We'd have been screaming for it". Well yes that's what supporters do appeal for penalties. We all know that we'll see that exact same thing over and over again this year and it won't be given.

Woken up and still outraged by that decision. Never a penalty and baffled by anyone who says it was. "He was leaning towards the ball"?? He's a defender in the penalty area trying to block a ball - are you meant to get out of the way/lean away from it.

At the first one I was just sitting there thinking I can't believe this is ours. Did also cross my mind of the various times when I thought we might go bust before we got there. Going again today and just as excited again.

As a lawyer who does Equal Pay law it is interesting to note that the prospect of young men falling behind young women is causing a sense of societal crisis that the reverse position consistently failed to invoke.

We're waking up to a new US/Russia axis Why Trump clings to Putin.

Trump could have pushed for an end to the war in Ukraine without becoming actively hostile to Ukraine. Instead, he has imbibed Putin’s lies. Have written about the emergence of a new US/Russia axis, where it comes from and the staggering implications for Europe.

It's amazing. Definitely feels tight to the pitch - haven't lost that feel. I did think though that other teams are going to like coming there in contrast to Goodison. So will be up to us to create a hostile atmosphere but am sure it'll just take a few shocking refereeing decisions...

Starting to feel real now! You definitely get a feel for how tight the stands are to the pitch once you're in there.

Tamworth denied a trip to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium because English football is run in the interests of only six clubs and there's some dead-rubber European games to fit in

It really is difficult to fully comprehend the shamelessness of MPs who did nothing on an issue for 14 long years when their party was in government only to express moral outrage on that same issue months into a new government. These people are everything that’s wrong with our politics.

I first learnt of grooming gangs from @theTimes in Jan 2011
I became chief prosecutor May 2011
I authorised charging Rochdale grooming gang June 2011
After convictions (May 2012) Starmer put me in charge of national response
Far Right thugs attacked my home
1000s of rapists were brought to justice

Here’s a short story about who wins and loses from the status quo of our inheritance tax rules - and about, what you might politely call β€˜sub-optimal’ journalism🧡

I see that a collection of MPs have taken it upon themselves to β€œlaunch” a private prosecution, in relation to a case which is still awaiting a CPS charging decision.

What might be the problems with this? 🧡

Pint glasses

Little competition as a small nice one for following us so quickly on Bluesky.

Repost and we'll pick 3 winners at random over the weekend to win one of our #Everton pint glasses.
