I don't have a feeling about baseball but Los Angeles has been through hell this year and something that makes this city feel good is good

take the train or bus to Arsicault Bakery, really won't regret it. "The Mediterranean" might be the best sandwich I've ever had in my life.

E&E News: Insurers flee wildfire-prone California despite state assistance Regulations to enable large rate increases contrast with other state efforts to stabilize insurance markets.

Interesting assessment of the state of affairs in California's home insurance market. The liability of the state FAIR plan β€” insurer of last resort β€” "is now nearly $700 billion, more than double the level two years ago." subscriber.politicopro.com/article/eene...

Philly is wonderful and so is SEPTA (at least pre-funding cuts). I think about moving there from LA at least a few times a month.

Generational theft

GDP would be 36% higher, $1.7 trillion annually. In effect, zoning-driven housing scarcity acts as a spatial cartel, locking labor and capital into less-productive regions and transferring wealth to incumbent homeowners in high-cost metros

I understood it intellectually, but it was jarring for me to live in New Orleans after so many years in Los Angeles. NOLA is far poorer and yet has a tiny fraction of the unsheltered homelessness LA has. As a result, the former is full of public spaces while the latter has virtually none.

nobody knows but i kinda hope so, only to completely dilute any chance Bass has at reelection. People have forgotten this but Bass went around in her personal capacity (pre City Council SB 79 resolution vote) last August lobbying various assemblymembers and senators across the state in killing SB 79

Housing markets have become regulated cartels of scarcity. The wealth looks β€œearned” on paper but is largely transferred from newcomers and renters to long-time owners. Housing markets are anything but free. The bottom 1/2s biggest expense by far inflated greatly by scarcity.

Many such cases, including myself. Kind of sucks to spend all these brain cycles thinking about housing policy and how to stop by local electeds from doing both very stupid and likely illegal things.

Did you see the talk he did at Caltech about his autobiography? Had to rage quit halfway into him talking about housing policy in LA County.

Villaraigosa doesn't seem so bad? I may have been a bit too young to understand how well or poorly he governed when he was my mayor.

What would be the rationale behind vetoing this? Who were the opponents? Amazing work from SFA and SAFE (both LA orgs where I want to say it seems like we need it here most)

It is way too car oriented:(

I just landed back in LA from SF after not visiting for 4 years. Absolutely eye watering experience in terms of transit. BART is absolutely *chef's kiss* now. Muni had some antisocial behavior but I could around by Lyft ebike. Never once thought about needing a car.
