Policies for specific content types - arXiv info | arXiv e-print repository
main issue with textbooks is copyright - undergraduate mass market textbooks basically may not be posted because of publisher rules
book chapters need to be "stand alone" chapters
a "teaser chapter" as an ad to sell the book is usually rejected

we've been fighting the growth of slop for some months and are taking additional measures as we have the capacity to do so
other repositories are getting hit worse,
as are a lot of journals
it will be interesting to see which journals will just take the page charges and let rip

this is in fact to try to stem the flood of AI slop
one step of many
you don't see the stuff we catch and reject,
the amount of slop is rising sharply and is currently dominated by first time submitters from academic institutions, in a not healthy way
we need to survive the transition...

Furthermore, as I've previously noted, it is evidence that the authors did not check the LLM outputs. Hence, it is highly likely there are other errors in the paper. We should have zero tolerance and impose penalties. ArXiv is doing this.

I'm trying to find scholars who have studied how scientists assimilate the discoveries of other scientists. I'm trying to understand the potential impact of AI-assisted acceleration of scientific discoveries beyond the short term. Can anyone point me to people and publications?

The Story behind the Science: Preprints of pandemic potentialβhow bioRxiv and medRxiv brought preprints to the life sciences | mBio
When we launched medRxiv in mid-2019, we never could have anticipated that just a few months later, New York would be at the epicenter of a rapidly escalating global pandemic, and we would be handling hundreds of papers about a previously unknown virus every week. Articles about bioRxiv and medRxiv preprints would appear on the New York Times front page, and our team worked every waking hour, seven days a week, making rapid decisions about sometimes controversial work and disseminating results of COVID research to millions of readers around the globe. Along the way, we were called dangerous and irresponsible by some, wimps and censors by others, but most in the biomedical community valued the service, and even Anthony Fauci and the head of the WHO called attention to the importance of preprints.
