What I mean by sympathy is his notion of being sympathetic to parties since we know the outcome of events. Something I am thinking about quite a bit for my own teaching today.

Just read this wonderful little book that is a discussion with the historian Bernard Bailyn. As a new history teacher, I love resources like this one that speak to the practical experience in teaching and in doing history. I was especially struck by his notions of sympathy. #history #bernardbailyn
