Been playing through Octopath Traveler this week on a friend's recommendation after the reveal in the recent Nintendo Direct.

Also BS that number of pages spent to try to make you reconsider your cancellation, but I came to expect that when I changed my internet service provider towards the end of last year.

Absolute BS that I can cancel a subscription through my profile page, but to request a refund on that subscription requires a phone call because the webpage will not provide a button to start processing the refund.

Grateful that my call center guy was straightforward with setting my refunds up.

More about re-allocation of energy and emotion, I guess. Trying to do my best with what I've got, and sometimes it's hard seeing others who have it "better" (in quotation marks because I know it's all relative).

Back for the first(?) time! Weekly Shogakukan Edition is now Strict Algorithm LLC.

As noted before, not much will change --this is to be legally distinct from Shogakukan. We'll still be doing threads, contests, and translations as always.

I was in a similar slump earlier this year, and my way out was to pick out a book out of five (or whatever number) even if I didn't think I was in the mood and just start reading it. For me, it was a matter of reminding my brain "Oh, yeah, I enjoy this" to break out.

But I'm glad I gave it a try.

Now to see if I can muster the motivation to next pick up a game I enjoyed but left unfinished...

Finished Paranormasight. Latter half was a lot tamer than I thought it'd be (which is great for me!) so it was easier to play through to the endings.

I have mixed feelings on the ending, though. Like, the details were there to clue you in, but finding it didn't feel like an accomplishment.

How long does it take to become fluent in Japanese? 🧵

Fluency (to me) is when I can perform multiple core skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) in another language without too much effort. I might need to double check meanings for certain words, but I do this in my native language too.

WaniKani uses SRS like Anki does to reinforce memory, and it will provide compounds and example sentences (as opposed to straight flashcards).

Making your own sentences is one way to practice, but I found that just attempting to read material to see words in context helped me best in the long run.

Played through a few chapters this morning. Better than attempting to play at night, but nah, there's no powering through when it comes to me and horror. Time to switch gears anyway. 🥲

Indie comics ain't easy. Working very hard to make something as well as you possibly can that you know only a few people outside of yourself care about can be quite lonely, and often feels almost like a folly.

Please let indie creators know you enjoy their work, it really helps.

To the latter point, I was in my first apartment for 1.5 years and my second for 2 years, both provided by my place of employment.

It's been over five years since I moved into my current place, and while things could be better, there's something comforting about the stability AND flexibility.

Thinking about when circumstances forced me to move to Gifu for work. It wasn't a bad time, but it made me realize some things really fast.

Like needing to move closer to things I want to engage in. Or living somewhere that wasn't tied to where I worked.
