If it does come up now, though, Labour will just be accused of rigging the system. If theyβd done this from day one, it might have worked. That said, I hope common sense prevails. I find itβ¦ unlikely though. (Even the mayoral change was a straight reversion when eg AV would have been better.)

Interesting also to see Reform setting fire to its integrity in this space. Itβs cooling on PR now it sees a route to 30% vote > 50%+ seats > 100% power. Huge shock /s. A pity, mind, because a policy that can unite the left, centre and right seems like a good one. But if the right now donβt want itβ¦

FPTP is the one thing that has unified every strand of Labour leader from Blair to the present day though. Even though voters, members, CLPs, unions and (probably) MPs lean in favour of PR, the leadership will never go for it, because Labour wants to rule alone β and blame others when it loses.

Ah, that. Fair enough regarding the phrasing, but at least he said something reasonable and also _quickly_, rather than Labour faffing about for over 24h before parping out something saying that deporting several million people via retroactive legislation probably isnβt the best idea.

Worries me when we hit a GE. Things were volatile anyway, but if things stay much as they are now, weβre basically into βroll the diceβ territory. Itβs absurd that we could end up in a situation even less representative than the current parliament, which is already very, very bad.

His stance to date has been that politicians should take politics serious but not themselves, which I think is OK. The issue is that without the stunts, the media just ignores the party entirely, despite it now having over 70 MPs. Iβd not heard the Davey quote though.

Itβs not good. We even saw that at a council election here in leafy north Hampshire. Last time, the seat went 3:1 LD:Con (no others). This time, it was Lib ~55% / Ref ~28% / Con ~17%. Although somewhat complicated by Ref now apparently being the party of protest and the Libs seen as establishment.

I think thatβs fair, but also the news has basically been full of Reform will win over that poll. Relatively little output considered any other outcome. So, yes, broad trends were correct, but the outcome was way off.

The brackets referred to the miss, although I may well have got that wrong from standard pollster writings. Not my area! :)

Quick reminder, given all the polls floating round right now, that Survation put Plaid on 38 (-9) and Reform on 42 (+6). Actually putting a tick in a box can sharpen minds.

Also: nothing to stop a bad actor ignoring it anyway, as is happening in the US right now. The main issue I think we have here is minority rule. That weβre talking about Ref getting ~30% of the vote = ~60% of the seats = ~100% of the power *and* Lab leadership still being anti-PR speaks volumes.

The end logic of this if youβre in the UK btw is DEFEND THE BBC.
Complain about it, protest bad coverage of course, but we wonβt get another institution that makes safe, publicly funded, reliable, human-created, vetted content for kids if we let the BBC get destroyed.
