guardrails are a scam...

as I said before: AI & any concept relating to it like so-called guardrails are a scam in the deepest sense like a perpetual motion machine or a ouija board — and not only a scam like a pyramid scheme which is a possible way to make money if you are first in first out

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

Governments Are Using AI To Draft Legislation. What Could Possibly Go Wrong? The power of AI to parse public responses or draft legislation is recognized worldwide. But how should lawmakers and leaders use the tech?

As AI reshapes how governments analyze public input and write laws, questions of transparency and democratic legitimacy loom large, Chris-Stokel Walker reports for Tech Policy Press.

Twentieth-century futurism was largely a project of “don’t worry about the problems of the present. Corporations will build you such a lovely future.”

21st-century futurism has mostly been billionaires and their courtiers whining about the mean environmental movement blocking their cool ideas.

No crypto in Canton: Town blocks data centers and crypto mining operations Canton’s makeshift town hall in a tiny trailer was bursting at the seams Wednesday night with citizens united against data centers and cryptocurrency mining.

For my money, the way thousands of regular people are self-organizing to resist data centers is one of the most cautiously hopeful stories going right now.

Google is stifling anti-ICE speech in the workplace as 1,200 employees call on the company to cut ties The search giant has made it harder and riskier to protest its policies. Workers are still fighting back. Plus: A community takes down a data center, QuitGPT, and the 5 worst Super Bowl AI ads.

At Google, speech critical of ICE is censored from the company's internal platform, employees who speak out are served with warnings, and leadership refuses to acknowledge a petition that's now gotten 1,200 employee signatures.

Inside the worker-led push to get ICE out of Google:

I consider it a promising sign of weakness that the rhetoric from the gentry indulging "ai" is shifting a bit from "it's inevitable! Shut up!" to "can't we have a reasonable discussion?"

The way a drunk frat bro pleads with the bar crowd he's been harassing all night not to finally kick his ass.

Kinda sad about this tbh. I've enjoyed Volts' energy analysis for a long time and always thought he was sensible, but "I mention AI just to attract new people to block" is quite a weird thing to do and say. Especially for someone who *must* know the energy, climate and material implications of AI

I experience AI like I'm watching a child do a magic trick. I can try to convince myself that it's impressive that they can do that, but I have to ignore all the obvious things that are screaming at me that this is shit, actually, as I hope with growing desperation for them to give up and release me

Steve Jobs stood on stage and showed us the iPhone and we instantly knew how useful it could be and wanted it as soon as possible. AI has been out for like 6 years and everyone hates it more and more every year. If it was actually useful in a general mainstream sense, we’d know by now.
