I write a little about a lot. - Politics (Canadian mostly), 2SLGBTQ+, and Weird Geekiness ... because.
57% ???? HOW?
10.02.2026 18:23 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Of course they haven't. At best, they are collectively too stupid to understand the problems, at worst there is a small cabal at the top who know full well, but think that they will profit enormously from the process.
It doesn't take an accountant to see the holes in the APP's "fully costed plan".
Smith wants to control the courts, do you think that dictating to a professional org is actually beyond her ego?
10.02.2026 17:11 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0It's funny how being an angry, judgmental person bent on imposing your will on everybody else ages you.
LaGrange is aging rapidly, and Smith is following not far behind.
Anger and hatred are corrosive.
That's also part of the "parental rights" nonsense - and it's just as vile.
07.02.2026 21:19 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0To be clear, this more anti-2SLGBTQ "parents-rights" nonsense.
It disregards the established convention in Canada that rights belong to the individual, and that includes children and youth.
Mostly because the gun nuts are all pissed off that there's any kind of regulation of their favourite toys.
and the BS coming out the UCP reinforces this.
Shorter Smith: "ReGuLaTiOn Iz BaD!!!"
I wish I was just being sarcastic - but with Smith/UCP the only thing that is a given is that the UCP will always pick the worst possible option.
The UCP declared itself a separatist party when they decided to make it easier for the separatists to get their referendum question onto the ballot.
Let's quit pussy-footing around and call these traitors what they are.

It never made sense, but it was more palatable to the oilbros because they know that any implementation is at least 2 decades out, where wind/solar can be on a much shorter timeline.
07.02.2026 01:30 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Perhaps the more interesting dimension there is the corner that she's ultimately painting him into - either speak out against separatism because of the national interest, or support it and watch conservative support in the ROC evaporate.
06.02.2026 16:49 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Go. Read. Now.
Markham nails down all of the ways the "separatists" - including Smith - get it wrong.

I find it noteworthy that Boessenkool has been quiet about the subject since writing that in 2023.
06.02.2026 16:38 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0"authoritarian libertarian" is shorthand for "my rights and opinions ahead of yours".
Libertarianism itself is political philosophy for people who want to think they have something intelligent to say. (No - I have no respect for it ever since hearing Senator Rand a few years ago)
Somebody ask โMarty up Northโ to describe this โelephantโ. Iโm pretty sure it is ๐ฏ ๐๐ฉ

Perhaps remind them of the deal Harper signed with China which set the conditions up for Chinese ownership ...

05.02.2026 13:59 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I object to simply using the โlegal definitionโ here. That definition is decades old and presupposes violent insurrection. Its authors did not foresee the combination of a โmad kingโ and his henchmen conspiring with a group of delusional nitwits who are willing to use subterfuge to get their way.
05.02.2026 13:57 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0More realistically, she wants to weaponize the courts against her political enemies.
04.02.2026 17:07 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0We have a minority govt in Ottawa, and I can see other pieces lining up to topple it.
04.02.2026 16:56 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0One complaint about that article - it doesn't even provide the title of the article, the journal it was published in, or an author name that could be used to find the actual research paper.
04.02.2026 15:00 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Anybody who thinks this isn't about prepping the public for an election later this year - either Federal or provincial (both?) is kidding themselves.
The CPC and UCP are operating hand-in-glove with each other, and it's carefully orchestrated.
Different objectives, same underlying grievances. The degree of โtruthโ in the grievances is where i see a difference between Alberta separatists and the Quebec variety.
IMO, Albertaโs have convinced themselves that a bunch of utter falsehoods are in fact true and built their identity on them.
Quebecโs separatists have their own fictions, the degree to which they can be considered delusional is different than Albertaโs.
03.02.2026 23:20 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Because nothing says "justice" like having judges that are expected to hold to a particular political ideology ...
03.02.2026 19:37 โ ๐ 51 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0It makes some very interesting arguments as to how the Charter should be interpreted regarding S33.
They are novel arguments, but there is a surprising amount of background reasoning that makes a lot of sense.
I remember the late 70s version of these fools - Elmer Knutsen, Doug Christie (look him up sometime - he was a piece of work). Compared to today's separatists, they were masters of reason and rhetoric. Today's lot are a bunch of Temu bullies trained in Gish-Galloping.
03.02.2026 18:18 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0When asked about separatism, Smith talks about these people having "legitimate grievances" - not once have I ever heard a separatist raise a grievance that isn't twisting the reality beyond the breaking point. Not once.
Smith is a liar, separatists are a bunch of deluded fools.

I encourage you to read the Attorney General of Canada's argument to the SCC in "Montreal English School Board v Quebec Attorney General".
If the court adopts this, it will substantially curtail the (ab)use of the NWC
