So this limited committee will β€œcreate a new policy for inclusive education” in AB? Current challenges in Inclusive Ed are nothing to do with lack of expertise in this area (Setting the Direction 2008, Action on Inclusion 2010). They are result of lack of gov commitment and funding.

No shame! The UCP continues to blatantly threaten democracy.

When will Catholic leaders in Alberta speak out? Pope Leo is a strong proponent of the principles of Catholic social justice, one of which is the dignity of work and the rights of workers.

More standardized testing in overcrowded classrooms won’t support students’ literacy/numeracy development. What will help is reducing class sizes and providing time for teachers to work directly with individual Ss, continually monitor their progress and adjust instruction as needed.

The only thing that’s not shocking about your interaction was that he admits to being a Trump supporter. Same lack of awareness and common decency towards others.

Grateful to @naheednenshi.bsky.social and his NDP colleagues for their leadership in the Legislature yesterday and at today’s press conference. Alberta would be in such good hands with an NDP government. πŸ‘πŸΌ

Not at all! She’ll stay true to form and play by her own rules. Nonetheless, to allow her to continue unchallenged only serves to normalize her behaviour as is happening with Trump and his team in the US.

Or maybe just demand more accountability as to how transfer payments are spent.

Is there a way for the federal government to step in and ensure that health transfers are used appropriately in public hospitals to treat all Albertans? People shouldn’t be languishing, and possibly dying, on waiting lists for healthcare.

And our shortsighted government is contributing further to the existing hospital crisis by limiting access to free Covid vaccines. We need to be keeping Albertans out of ERs through thoughtful preventative measures.

The same Jason Nixon who’s pretending to be concerned about the red tape AISH recipients face in applying for the Canada Disability Benefit … a process he’s forcing them to undergo so the UCP can claw back $200 from vulnerable Albertans. It’s causing much stress for those with disabilities. 😒

I can’t see this premier accepting responsibility for any of the recent government missteps, so I’d sure like to be a fly on the wall as she navigates these disasters with cabinet and other government employees. I imagine someone is getting a tongue lashing with every cock-up.

What he really means is:
β€œI am once again calling on the federal government to provide automatic enrolment to clients of provincial disability programs, including Albertans on AISH, so our government experiences no delays in clawing back $200 from vulnerable Albertans.”

For my daughter’s family of five, that’s $500. BC may be an option for them, but only if vaccines are provided at pharmacies on weekends. Having to pull kids out of school to drive to BC for a vaccine that should be provided here in AB is just shameful.

At what point does the federal government hold a provincial government accountable for the erosion of universal healthcare?

We are all stronger together. Sectarian divisions only advantage the wealthy and powerful. Jewish, Muslim, Christian, black, brown, white, etc… none of that matters.

Let’s all answer the call of our shared humanity. We are all equal!

How can you be Education Minister and not acknowledge the expertise that exists within schools/district offices? As Director of Inclusive Ed, I saw the hours teachers and admin spent making educated (based on research) decisions on where limited EA support could best be used to meet student need.

The minister didn’t address question on tracking class size, and his comment on not tracking instances of aggression is inaccurate. Schools document every incident and its impact, and typically report to division office serious cases where restraint is used to keep staff/students safe.

Someone should tell Adriana LaGrange that AB hasn’t yet separated from the rest of Canada, and isn’t the 51st state. Our health policies should be based on trusted information from Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada.

An open letter to Danielle Smith:

We represent a group of over 3600 parents, families and educators who love and support disabled children in Alberta. We are the people affected by your recent ableist words about our kids and the rampant ableist policies enacted by your government.
In March of 2020, the program Alberta families have relied on for decades (PUF) was decimated by funding cuts, as you know. While there have been minimal efforts to restore parts of the program, we currently have a fraction of the spaces we used to have. It is no wonder that 5 years later, we are starting to see the effects of not helping children individually. Global accommodations are not the same as individual supports, but that's not news.
You, as the leader of our province, have created a situation that is unsustainable for all parties involved. Teachers are not required to take classes during their education about teaching disabled kids. Class sizes have exploded over the last several years. We have a fraction of the support staff we used to have. RCSD? No longer. In its place a model that sees almost zero support for K-12 students. FSCD and eventually PDD? A three year wait. So where are our families supposed to turn to get help for our kids? Wanting our children to meet their full potential is simply not too much to ask.
You can't create the current reality and then blame it on the children who can't manage in this situation, segregate them, and then say it was the teachers who wanted it. We don't punch down on kids. We act like the adults in the room and work collaboratively to solve the very complex, multi-faceted situation that we have created and just is not working.
At the foundation of all of it is this: Disabled children have a human right to an inclusive education. It is your job as Alberta's premier to ensure they receive that. Please make sure our kids have a seat at every table that makes decisions about them.
With immense concern for our children's futures,

Here is our statement in response to Danielle Smith and her recent comments. We can't stand by and let people speak about our children like this.
