Today, I’m thinking of Lewiston, Maine, where two years ago, a night of bowling, corn hole, and catching up with neighbors turned deadly because a dangerous person had a gun. Eighteen people were killed, 13 others were wounded, and an entire community was irrevocably changed.

Along with our democracy, the Clean Water Act faces significant challenges, including the narrowing of federal authority by recent Supreme Court decisions and potential reductions in funding and enforcement capabilities - source pollution and forever chemicals are a real threat.

UPDATE: At least two children, ages 8 and 10, were shot and killed and at least 17 more people, including 14 children, were wounded during a back-to-school mass at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis.

Schools & churches should be sanctuaries of safety for children, not where they go to die.

Children aren’t going home to their families tonight because this country has decided relentless mass shootings in our schools, churches, grocery stores, offices—the list goes on and on—are acceptable in exchange for unfettered access to assault weapons.
