To better understand using R, I converted a tutorial from gambling related, to Dungeons and Dragons themed. Relatability helps me learn. Eventually I managed to output pigment data from Austraits. Phase 2 is a craft project to make plant physiology and taxonomy relatable through storytelling.

I like puzzles and have enjoyed attempting to solve this one. So far all my desktop attempts failed, and asking both an engineer and architect who were around during pre digital eras also failed. I want to keep trying as I am enjoying the mystery, but want to ask if you have solved this yet?

I love this teeny tiny Eucalyptus viminalis leaf.
It’s the littlest gum tree leaf I’ve ever seen.

I have built an index in Obsidian on Tasmanian Endemic Eucalypts for my personal notes. Now I am adding pictures of each trait. This project has really helped me be able to visualise and understand similarities and differences amongst what previously felt like a vast amount of variables.

I love how the double ribs on this E. coccifera kept growing up past the operculum. These buds are heavy metal as

I hyperfocused on learning about bud bracts this week, after mistaking a bract from E.Nitens for an outer operculum.

Early bud development has buds encased in a bract.
Buds have an inner and outer operculum

Some buds shed the outer operculum early, resulting in an operculum scar.

My brain has been melting, I can't find any diagrams on it.
I've gone as far as to find the double operculum mentioned in Meuller 1859 in latin.
And descriptions of some species. E. sidetoxylon, E. tricarpa, E. camalduldensis, and others. But usually not mentioned.

My best guess is Eucalyptus Nitens.

I'm struggling a bit with some terminology. Any help would be appreciated. Is this an example of the sepaline operculum/ outer operculum shedding? With buds forming flowers that then shed a petaline operculum/inner operculum on each flower?
