It would be nice if people could stop acting like DEI is an only a moral good.
DEI strengthens organizations. People from diverse backgrounds bring new ways of solving problems and serving people.
DEI isnβt a gift to diverse people. Itβs a gift to the orgs that hire us.

I receive a lot of feedback on social media asking me to keep politics out of science. But what they really mean is "keep the status quo" and "don't challenge a notion about society and science that makes me more comfortable"

Science should reflect the diversity of the world it serves. The way the system works now is to make sure there is no diversity, and that is why DEI work is necessary.

If you believe in true meritocracy - if you believe that people should gain success based on merit alone and should not be pushed forward or held back based on race, immigration status, socioeconomic class, etc - you should be fighting FOR DEI work, not against it.

The society we live in was designed to uplift certain groups and marginalize others. The system works perfectly. Eliminating DEI work in the name of meritocracy and unification is making sure that the system continues to work as it was designed to work for the people it was designed to work for.

Well the award for most cowardly, boot-lickingest academic society has squarely gone to the American Society of Microbiology, who has taken down features of various non-white scientists. Absolutely pathetic behavior. Those articles are now coming up as βunder reviewβ. Truly sickening cowardice here.

In addition to supporting DEI and collaborating with local communities, scientists should use indigenous names and common names when describing species, study sites, etc. Indigenous people deserve respect when research is conducted on their land. #Science #MarineScience #Academia

Scientists can and should lead the charge in equity by committing to DEI work despite federal rollbacks by the Trump admin. These actions are vital for the integrity and equity of our research, sci comm, and impact on society #DEI #STEM

Marginalized communities face the worst climate impacts. Trump repealed the Equal Employment Opportunity Act + dismantled DEI initiatives - this WILL exacerbate injustice and inequality in climate research/policy. Diversity is necessary for equity in climate solutions. #DEI #environmentaljustice
