I'm wondering if we all need to download a copy of our Social Security statement from their website to have it as a backup for the day when DOGE inevitably crashes all their systems?

17.03.2025 22:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Okay, I cannot recommend 5calls.org enough. Enter your address and it will find all your reps (federal and state). AND give you a list of issues to call about AND which reps to call about each of them AND a little script for each, in case it's helpful. They have an app, too.

Attempting to learn Tunisian Crochet in the round with mixed results. I think I need to try it in wool yarn, this cotton is very unforgiving. #tunisiancrochet #Craftsky

"Do we know each other?"
"Why, do you think we're going to? Because I already know an awful lot of people and until one of them dies I couldn't possibly meet anyone else."
Why should I pay for AI? If I wanted someone to pretend they knew something they didn't, give me incorrect information, and then refuse to admit they were wrong, I could just ask a question while being female on the internet.
13.12.2024 07:22 β π 144 π 43 π¬ 3 π 0Trollogarchy (noun): A system of governance in which a small group of wealthy individuals are empowered to provoke, frustrate, or "troll" opposing political or cultural factions, particularly liberals. This governance style prioritizes buffoonery and corruption over competence or consensus.

13.12.2024 20:24 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My hot tip for the day - you can add a lifeline later if you find you need to frog a bunch, it doesn't have to be done on live stitches. Just take a piece of scrap yarn and use a needle to run it through the center of every stitch on the row you want to keep and then frog away!

Technology changes quickly but the foundations of what makes learning valuable or useful are slower to change. Don't get distracted by the shiny toys.
Looks interesting and based on the description it reflects some of my own experiences, thanks for the recommendation!
04.12.2024 01:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It gets so much better! The first row is by far the hardest part when you're learning.
02.12.2024 03:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Side note, this yarn is the Loops & Threads "Facets" acrylic and it's a huge pain to work with, it's like very thin unspun roving. The colors are gorgeous but I do not recommend the yarn.

26.11.2024 19:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Basic tunisian stitch is definitely thicker than basic knitting. Tunisian has a kind of squishy plush feeling to it that I think knitting doesn't unless you're doing some fancy stitches.
26.11.2024 19:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I love that grid element of tunisian crochet, I find it so much easier to cross stitch patterns on top than to work them directly into the piece.

I'd agree with that element of fear, if the SMEs can do stuff that's 'good enough' then what purpose do we have? I'm also guilty of forgetting the adage "don't let the perfect be the enemy of the done" and getting stuck on a single perfect (in my mind) approach.
