Yeah, I think that's enough for it. Instead of thinking of it as a layout surrounding a middle button or a 6+1 layout, it's more like an ABXY layout where X is split into 4 buttons. That makes it simpler to think about while keeping the possibilities open

But then again, the placement of the ... button may be enough to make it stand out and not get accidentally pressed if something primarily uses the other 6 inputs. I guess it also depends on hand size. May be awkward to only have one button be clickier/harder to press all the way in too hmm

Funny how that works out haha, that would be a good branding/marketing gimmick on its own. I think N64 feel would work nicely. I'd say that's on the tappy side, but leans towards mushy a little bit. If it turned out difficult to differentiate the buttons, then maybe some shapes could be tested

I do find it awkward getting used to certain control schemes when they try to include so many inputs. I recently started PS5 Spider-Man 2, and I'm being reminded of how limiting it is using these 4-button controls. Most of the inputs are things like L1/L2+Face, R1/R2+Face, Tri+Cir, etc.

True, the biggest roadblock with the 5 button GC layout is definitely the difficulty with multiple simultaneous inputs
