And I absolutely want to thank the dozens of people from the community who showed up in support of this individual and their family. Because showing up was the most important thing we could have done today.

I can also tell you that Lower Providence residents stepped in immediately to repair the damaged door, in these freezing temperatures. Community members offered food and clothing – the family is okay with those things. The school district is working to support the children.

I could tell you that, in Harrisburg, there are half a dozen bills introduced to require civil rights across the board when Federal agents are active in Pennsylvania. I can tell you I helped where I could.

If I were reading this at this point I would ask, then what are you going to do? And that is the hard question. I could tell you I’ve spoken to our local police department and I believe that their influence today forced the Federal guys to play by the rules.

For the vision of who we can be, together. For the protections that our Constitution demands, for all of us. And one family in Lower Providence Township most definitely does not see our nation that way today. That alone is heartbreaking.

There are a thousand comments to add here. But here’s what I keep thinking most often today: this is the United States of America. People come to our shores, for the land of opportunity and justice.

ICE created a nightmarish, chaotic spectacle, broke down the door, and injured a woman. And, after provoking that altercation, they arrested one man.

And they arrested one man. Children were unable to attend school and they may have been deliberately traumatized. Family members were subjected to an invasion of privacy and damage was done to their home.

They did not present as professional law enforcement officers by their appearance or demeanor.

Some had body cameras which may have been on or off. All but one of them were masked and hiding their identities.

I’m being very direct: I say “alleged ICE agent” because these individuals arrived in personal cars, were dressed in torn jeans and civilian winter clothes, and had a variety of police names on their non-matching tactical military vests.

But they had a charge at that point that they then took to a judge for a judicial warrant, which they secured in the early afternoon.

Prior to my arrival, they provoked the individual they were after and an alleged ICE agent’s vehicle apparently sustained some kind of damage. I say it that way for a reason: I did not see this altercation myself and I do not have access to the warrant they then pursued.

They did not have a warrant at 8:30 this morning. To be direct, they showed up around 7:30 while school buses and children were in the vicinity, and they did not have a warrant.

I was present to observe that the rights of those witnessing ICE’s actions were protected and that ICE followed legal protocols like obtaining a judicial warrant before detaining any individuals.

Today ICE agents were active in our community and detained a resident of Lower Providence. I was on the scene at 8:30 a.m. along with some very courageous and trained observers.

I haven’t stopped thinking about this. And we shouldn’t let it slip past. The President of the United States is personally attacking the full faith and credit of our nation. On a daily basis.

This is a grotesque display of the kind of cruel and hateful messaging that this administration promotes on a regular basis. It’s unacceptable coming from anyone, let alone the person who is supposed to be “leading” and “representing” our country.

In response to President Trump’s racist depiction of President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, I join my colleagues in Montgomery County in condemning this disgusting and horrific behavior.

I was glad to see my resolution pass the State Government Committee on Tuesday. Our voting process in PA should be efficient and secure. That’s why I introduced HR 56, which would study & identify legislative and administrative recommendations to minimize the time needed to vote.

This isn’t a finished product; it’s the groundwork for what we want to achieve and what we can achieve in our great state. Pennsylvania has the people and resources to meet today’s problems and build toward the future. I’m ready to help make that happen.
