They might be confusing this with TANF (temporary assistance for needy families), which is a non-food cash benefit. It works like a debit card. Still there are state & federal laws that dictate what can be charged. /end

The approved stores use their point of sale system to separate out eligible and non eligible items.

EBT cards use a proprietary, government-specific network, not the standard credit/debit card networks. So even if you use a system like stripe, you cannot charge EBT cards. 2/

Racism aside, this is absolutely a lie. Only stores that sell food are able to accept SNAP EBT cards. No nail/hair salon would have the ability to charge the ebt card. They aren’t set up for it and wouldn’t ever be approved to do so. 1/
