Today marks the start of the 2025 Fat Bear festivities at Katmai National Park.
It's happening a bit early this year.
Here's a run-down on the event and important dates.

#FatBearWeek
Today is the final day of Blaugust, the Festival of Blogging. While I normally try *not* to do meta posts about blogging, I will indulge in meta to mark the occasion.

Here's an article clipped from the Yled Times Chronicle regarding Arghunn the Annihilator's highest & lowest moments. Most of the individuals involved are undead.

Here's how to spend an upsetting amount of money and years of your life setting up a T6 trophy farm!

I use Terraform a lot at $UNIVERSITY. We've decided to move to OpenTofu for the state file encryption they added in. There's a bit of a gotcha -- that the documentation calls out! -- to be aware of.

When we started playing Pathfinder 2e, healing was a jarring change. It seemed like a real struggle to keep everyone topped up without the 5e-style short rest mechanic. But as we played more, we started figuring out all the tricks.

I haven't seen any introductory guides for Pathfinder 2nd edition meant to quickly get someone started when they're already familiar with DnD 5e. This post will be my attempt at that guide.

1-Star Dungeon is the Abomination Vaults campaign that I've been running for about a year. This will be a series of posts with The Story So Far -- but there's still about 60% of the book to get through.
This post will summarize the beginning of the campaign.

Today is August 19th and marks our sixteenth year without _why the lucky stiff. He isn't dead or anything, but this was a day where the world became a little bit less fun.

It seems that today is some sort of Event in blaugust: a day where everyone is posting their low-stakes hot takes. I have some of those!

After Janthir's story ran out of steam and the delay for expansion six, I was not feeling great about GW2. The announcement didn't help much, but I am slowly coming around.

Fat Bear Week in early October is what gets everybody's attention, but the cameras went live on June 18th and the community has been putting in work.
Here's a quick look at the most important Bear Developments that the bearwatching community has reported!

On Wednesday, I visited The Coach House in Wicker Park. They've built a joint fine-dining & casual-dining operation on the back of *the* best fried chicken sandwich in the city, drawing flavours from Tamil Nadu and south east asia.

With some apprehension, I've listed my first legendary greatsword on the trading post since the Janthir Wilds expansion launched. About a month before JW, I started doing this and was making good money on it ... but I'm worried about wizard vault boxes.

Bayan Ko is a Filipino/Cuban restaurant with a bit of history: it started Γ la carte, transitioned to a tasting menu, and then forked off a standalone diner to serve Γ la carte once again.

July 16th is National Hotdog Day. In most places, this is a non-event. But Chicago is not normal about hotdogs, so for me, it's a blitz of marketing emails from beef shacks trying to get me to guzzle their glizzies ...

I was downtown one afternoon in May with no dinner plans. Proxi, the sister to Sepia, had impressed me a few years ago with their elote bites, so I decided to check out their happy hour.

I had a spirit-free drink called Mulberry Lapo's at Atelier a month or two ago. It was a pretty good drink, so I asked for the recipe and that's become my mid-afternoon go-to.

The blaugust feed has brought me a few posts lamenting the end of NaNoWriMo this week. I hadn't participated in a long time, but I still really loved the concept. Here's my own eulogy for a bit of fallen web culture.

The Palm Court at the Drake Hotel offers afternoon tea in a fancy space full of flowers, a fountain, and a live harpist. As our swankiest tea service, it's been on my list for a while, and in May I finally made it in.

Moody Tongue is an oddball: despite being a brewery, they had a 2-star tasting menu that featured a lot of asian flavours and ingredients. But, being a brewpub, they offered beer pairings instead of wine, which is exciting!

Valhalla is a relatively "new" tasting menu. They don't have a star, but it's certainly a star-worthy experience. I've been in twice over the last year.

At the beginning of June, I visited Sepia for their choose-your-own-adventure tasting menu. It was a nice, quiet meal in a beautiful dining room.

Over the last year, I've tried ObΓ©lix in its various forms: dinner, brunch, and to-go. I've neglected to post about it -- so today, I'm catching up on some food posting with three ObΓ©lix experiences!

During blaugust, I theoretically have attention from all the other folks celebrating.
I'd like to highlight a couple of cool things that are in the spirit of People Posting Stuff, but who aren't participating in blaugust.

Some Spinach Inquisitors were camping yesterday, so my typical Friday pathfinder game was cancelled. I took the opportunity to visit AJI Omakase for dinner.

I took the list of Blaugust participants and prepared an OPML file. RSS readers should be able to take this file and subscribe to everybody. Just be warned that you will be getting quite a lot of posts!

It's August 1st, which means it is blaugust time! I managed 31 pretty good posts last year, and even kept blogging fairly regularly through February.
