What do spiders really get up to on Halloween? They’ve got better things to be getting on with than plotting with witches.

DID YOU KNOW there are lots of places around Lewisham where you can pop in to get a voucher for a food parcel?

It's not always easy to get through on the phone lines so these drop ins are a great option.

Also many schools, housing associations and GP surgeries issue vouchers.

Here’s to the birdwatchers! Optimistic, slightly eccentric custodians of wonder and joy and passion and love At its heart, birdwatching is an act of quiet rebellion, says Natalie Kyriacou. It is the gentle act of noticing – the willingness to see the world around you

The photo is of a monochrome view of a narrow, unpaved path winding through a dense, tree-lined area. The path, appearing lighter in tone due to sunlight filtering through the canopy, recedes into the distance, creating a sense of depth and perspective. The surrounding foliage on both sides of the path is dark and lush, contrasting with the brighter path and emphasizing the enclosed, tunnel-like feel of the environment. The overall impression is one of a serene and secluded natural setting, inviting exploration.

A magical, unpaved path leads through beautiful Aysgarth Falls woodland, diffused sun pleasingly patterning the walkway.

Happy Friday!

This photo by Jack Greenwood shows a forest in the Quantocks at a place called dead woman's ditch.
The name "Dead Woman's Ditch" in the Quantock Hills is associated with the murder of Jane Walford by her husband John Walford in 1789. However, historical records indicate the name predates this event, appearing on maps before the murder. The ditch is an ancient earthwork, and the name may be related to its prehistoric origins as a boundary marker or defensive structure.

The trees in the Quantacks are all wiggly because of centuries of coppicing.

Sign the Petition Protect the Ghyll Natural Reserve – Say No to Its Sale!

This is a beautiful area, and we have so little ancient woodland left. New woodlands will take centuries to develop ecosystems as rich, and our wildlife doesnt have that kind of time! Critical to preserve what we already have, and prevent erosion of rights via Public Footpaths

A ground-breaking new publication explains the science behind posture, and why we can sometimes end up in pain. Research on the #AlexanderTechnique has been central to this new understanding. It's not the easiest of reads, so I’ve summarised the main points here: julia-woodman.co.uk/2025/03/31/h...

We are recommended to spend 20 minutes a day in nature. One way to do so is the practice of visiting a 'sit-spot' (Native American) or 'txoko' (Basque) - a regular place for contemplating nature in the moment. This perfectly describes the effect it has on stress πŸ™‚
