Just a reminder, the greatest living American historian filmmaker, Ken Burns, released a 720 min exploration of every facet of the American revolution using zero generative AI and paying for all of its assets instead of cobbling it from stolen data, then he gave it away for free on PBS this year.

While independent bookstores are giving out free whistles, hosting protest sign making events, and donating proceeds to mutual aid, Amazon is *checks notes* providing technology that assists ICE in their terrorizing of communities.

Independent bookstores deserve your support. Amazon does not.

The majority of organizing happening in Minnesota isn’t just peaceful, it’s INVISIBLE. Moms showing up who won’t be interviewed on TV, people whose ICE patrols don’t turn into viral video. The grocery runs, the donations, the people filming bc they happen to be there. Please remember this.

In a lot of ways, I'm really lucky. I work from home. I write and draw books. I still experience a lot of the same normal creative issues. I'm burned out. My current project frustrates me. But a few things in my routine have changed. Me: Hey, mom. Are the cousins okay? How's grandma? And your sisters? Me: Oh, good. Yeah. Okay, that's good. I'll call you later. Watching Bob's Burgers on repeat while I work.

My friends check in from time to time. Text: I got rubber-bulleted by ICE just on my way back from work. Ouch. Text: Hey I'm gonna observe tomorrow at the protest. You and your wife drop your 6-year-old off at school. You just moved here. You see ICE terrorizing your new neighbors. You film them, as is your legal right. Your wife complies with orders. She is then shot in the head. You still have to pick up your child later today.

Time is owned by Marc Benioff, the CEO of Salesforce, which is currently trying to sell its AI tool to ICE in order to triple their recruitment. just a thing I think about sometimes while I’m at work, implementing his product for nonprofits.

I don't know if all publishers do this (mine at MacMillan does and I love it so much) is have an editor credit in the front pages. We need more love and recognition for editors!!!!
