As someone active in UK Star Trek fandom in the 1970s, that statement is palpably untrue. Many of those running early Trek organisations were women, as were the authors of much of the fan-fiction.

Janet Quarton was an absolute powerhouse, and the Star Trek Action Group -- which I joined circa 1975/76 -- gave UK Trekkies a real focus for their enthusiasm. Gene Roddenberry himself praised her contribution, and reportedly named 'Q' in her honour.

Let's raise a glass to June Lockhart, who left us on Thursday, aged 100. From She-Wolf of London (1946) through Lost in Space (1965-68) and on to a final voice cameo in the 2021 Lost in Space remake, what a career she had.

Batman's debut is announced in the final frame of that month's Superman strip (Action Comics 12, cover-dated May 1939).

Just out for #Halloween. Apparently, the #wine label glows in the dark, useful if you're thirsty during a power cut.

US60.00 plus credit card fee, so about $61. That's just over £45, which is a bit steep for a DVD, even a limited-edition pressing.

I keep hearing great things about Yippee Ki-Yay Mother Video's DVD of Albert Pyun's workprint for the Captain America #movie he directed in 1990. It's longer than the released version and is apparently much more coherent. US$33 plus international shipping is a bit of an obstacle, but time will tell.

Just learned Dark Horse published an updated edition of Joe Bob Goes to the Drive-In yesterday. My old copy is in storage somewhere (I need more shelf space!), but it's a fun overview of the #horror and #exploitation #movie genre.

It really irritates me that the BBC grabs the majority of the licence fee (a little goes to C4 and S4C), whilst true heroes such as the folks behind @talkingpicturestv.bsky.social have to fight for every penny. (Disclosure: I do know Sarah, who runs this fantastic channel with her father & husband.)

I always loved Basil Gogos's cover paintings for Famous Monsters of Filmland, and here's his debut in 1960 (issue 9, Vincent Price), plus another from 1961 (issue 16, Lon Chaney). Trivia: the cover star for the first two issues was publisher James Warren, wearing #horror masks.
