Had all of those (except the Hoegarden) sat in the beer garden at Maison Du Bierre in Elsecar. A great venue for sampling classic Belgian and German beers. A good choice there Pete.

A photo of the beer poured into a specially commissioned Northern Monk glass to match the can label. A pale golden coloured beer and slightly hazy.

Never thought that I would see this combination. Two great breweries two great beers in their own right and yet this works so well together. Piney and citrus, this could so easily over promised and underdelivered but thankfully didn’t. Given as a gift by a good friend.

Happy St Andrews Day.

To celebrate here’s a photo from Dumfries and Galloway, an area of Scotland often overlooked but is well worth exploring. This is the lighthouse at Southerness

The Outer Hebrides in February can be a bleak place. I faced 10 days of grey and rain, and although it is a place that looks great in the rain I was longing for light.

Finally, a break. All afternoon, light flooded over Luskentyre and the whole west coast of the island. It gradually built into the inevitable end of the day, but I could not have predicted just how good it would get.

My wife decided to stay in the car and read her book while I wondered along the sand dunes, thinking she had the better idea and the light was gone, but when I found my way to the top of the dunes I noticed the passing shower moving towards the Harris Hills then… an explosion.

The setting sun catching alight in the low clouds drifting along the hilltops. The dunes were aflame too, warm, inviting, catching the wind as it whistled through the landscape. Then, out of nothing, a magnificent rainbow arching upwards, it’s twin just visible to the left. I talk about magic a lot. But this was the purest distillation of magic. And because it is the nature of magic, it was brief, fleeting, but left an indelible mark on me.

For St Andrew’s Day here is Luskentyre on one of the most dramatic evenings I’ve witnessed on the island.

A picture of the hanging stone porter. Served in a pint glass with the brewery logo on. The picture is taken from the beer terrace out front with lovely views of the valley.

The other bonus was the walk went directly passed the premises of Wincle Brewery. It would be rude not to have called in for a pint. The hanging stone porter was lovely, creamy and slightly smokey.

Taken from the top of the roaches looking south to the distinctive summit of hen cloud. Taken in the golden hour the autumn colours are enhanced by the warm light.

Well Bert has put a dampener on any walks today. So it got me looking through my phone photos and found some from a wander around the roaches almost two years ago to the day. A long drive through the fog was rewarded by a lovely crisp sunny day and a rewarding full days walk

One of my favourite images from Dorset.
After a long 4 day walk along the Dorset coast, this was my last stop.

Politically, I’m definitely more towards the left and support those who try to improve the world for others and not themselves. Tolerant of others by nature but I can’t respect those that are intolerant.

Ok that's enough for the moment.

I have an account on Mastodon which is a lovely friendly place, however its never taken off with the people I used to follow on twitter. This place however looks like it could become the twitter that I loved from around 10 years ago

I live near to Barnsley, a much-maligned town in South Yorkshire. Hopefully I can change some people’s minds about this place I call home

Currently our favourite bar is Maison du Biere at Elsecar Heritage Centre between Barnsley and Sheffield. As well as 20 different beers and 3 ciders on tab there is around 500 bottles & cans to choose from. But what makes it special is the friendly welcome given to everyone who comes in.

Skye is sat in front of a roaring fire in the lovely historic pub called The Cherub in Dartmouth She has a big smile on her face as she anticipates a treat whilst we down a pint or two.

So, a few skeets to introduce myself. Firstly let me introduce you to my faithful walking and drinking companion Skye. She’s getting on a bit now at 11 years old but there’s nothing she likes better than a nice walk followed by a fuss in some of her favourite pubs and bars.
